Re: LMDE BREAKAGES - read here first - Update 5 august 2011

You only need them if you build something from source that depends on them. So you can remove them and install them again if you need them to build something.

Re: Gtk3 themes in LMDE to fix the "broken themed applicatio

It's a simple colour selector so you can see the number of the selected colour.
BTW, it comes with a low resolution icon. Get the one attached and replace /usr/share/pixmaps/gcolor2/icon.png so you have a better looking menu entry.

Re: Gtk3 themes in LMDE to fix the "broken themed applicatio

I never tweaked a gtk3 theme but an easy way to try is this: - install gcolor2 and run it. - find out what colour is the one you want to change (like the light gray from the window's background). - search for that colour in the files of the gtk3 theme (it can be done with 'find' or graphically with ...

Re: from gnome to xfce?

Thanks for the quick answers. I've found that launching xfce from gdm instead of slim solves almost all my troubles: I've got automount again and the logout screen buttons for halt and reboot are now enabled... Maybe slim is not rightly configured or it handles the xsession user permissions in a st...

Re: Mint-Update Debian and new repositories

Ok. So the answer is yes  Sorry. I read it but I didn't remember... Thanks a lot According to that thread actually the answer is 'no'. But to be on the safe side the Mint team should probably disable the debian-multimedia repo too and mirror its packages in their latest/incoming repos (or jus...

Re: Cannot record sound. Playing is OK-ish

Hi Brian. We're diverting from the topic, maybe.. I think you have to edit the Xfce menu by hand: http://wiki.xfce.org/howto/customize-menu https://xubuntu.wordpress.com/2006/07/12/manually-edit-the-xfce-menu/ But there a GUI for that too: http://xfcemenuedit.mon-asso.org/index.en.html As for pulsea...

Re: Cannot record sound. Playing is OK-ish

IMO you should point the repos back to testing and dist-upgrade again. You probably had already a system newer than Squeeze and then you pointed the repos to it. I don't know what may have happened but pulseaudio isn't the default in Debian (it's ALSA) and the newer versions are better so I suspect ...

Hit q and the installation will continue (it's just showing you an important changelog).

Re: [SOLVED] Xfce Debian and Chromium/Chrome

Just to add. Maybe that line could be added to ~/.profile ? Then it would be only for the interested user. I use GNOME 3 but I have IceWM too and I notice that Chrome can't read the saved passwords sometimes (I had this problem a lot before when using LXDE/Openbox/IceWM - saved passwords vanishing f...

Re: Gnome3 for the experienced (FUN Stuff!!!)

@ cbowman, if you have sid repos enabled then your system defaults to sid (because it has the latest package versions) unless you make testing the default release in apt.conf. So that pinning would make sense if you had testing as the default release. Anyway, if you pin all packages from experimenta...

You don't need to make sid the default release. It is already (experimental packages can only be installed directly).
That would make sense if you made the default release 'testing'.

Re: Where did the packages in repo "Local" come from?

If you didn't install anything manually (you would remember, right?) then the packages are there probably because you changed repositories. Like if you were using the Debian testing repos and then changed them for the new LMDE repos (latest/incoming). If you run 'apt-get autoremove --purge' or 'debo...

Local or obsolete packages are packages (or versions of packages) that are installed in your system but that ain't available in any of your active repositories.

Re: Gnome3 for the experienced (FUN Stuff!!!)

Just for you to know. In Debian sid (from Debian testing: add sid repos and apt-get dist-upgrade), just add the experimental repo(s) line(s) (plural in case you add both deb and deb-src), add a file /etc/apt/preferences.d/gnome with the following contents Package: alacarte banshee* *brasero* cheese ...

Re: How to turn off pcspeaker?

I'm using Debian with GNOME 3. But if you install the proper sound packages for GNOME (I think they involve canberra and in my case I also installed freedesktop-sound-themes - or something like that) the pcspeaker beep will be replaced by the default alert sound in GNOME (the one you can choose in t...
