Re: Gnome3 for the experienced (FUN Stuff!!!)

I use Debian sid/experimental. I have to remove the packages from the pinning file as they enter unstable. In your case, although Raphael Hertzog is much more knowledgeable than me, I wouldn't leave the same list for both experimental and unstable in the pinning file. So my /etc/apt/preferences.d/gn...

You should really use sgfxi to manage the NVIDIA driver instead of the Debian package.

Re: UPDATE PACK 2 FEEDBACK THREAD

- The issue with ugly-looking gtk3 apps like gnome-terminal and gcalctool still persists. So these holds should be kept. Alternatively, you could put the last 2.32 version of gnome-terminal and gcalctool into the repo and wait for better gnome3 support in debian testing. I'm not using LMDE but it l...

Re: Login screen ... bug ?

Well, it is a bug but I would say it won't be fixed simply because gdm3 is going to be updated from 2.30 to 3.0
3.0 doesn't even have that app to set the autologin (yet) and uses /etc/gdm3/daemon.conf so...

Re: Gnome3 for the experienced (FUN Stuff!!!)

gnome-shell currently has this obsolete dependency.

But more important, don't upgrade today! The latest upgrade broke gnome-shell. Wait until it's fixed.
(of course you may try to upgrade only baobab, gedit and epiphany to their new versions, leaving gjs and libgjs0b on hold)

Re: Removing beep sound

In /etc/gdm3/greeter.gconf-defaults there's a line about the login sound. Turn it to 'false' instead of 'true' (and don't forget to remove the '#' sign from the beginning of the line, if there's one).
At least the login beep will disappear.

It may be your browser creating it. Change the default folder where the downloads go to in the browser preferences.

Also I think one can install plain Debian testing and then add LMDE's repositories.

Re: LXDE not saving setings.

I don't have LXDE here but I used it a lot. First make sure you have ~/.config/pcmanfm/LXDE/pcmanfm.conf (or something like that - it's the local config file). If you don't have it, then just copy /usr/share/lxde/pcmanfm to your ~/.config folder (~/ means /home/ username /). Then to delete that fold...

Re: LMDE BREAKAGES - read here first - Update 2 july 2011

Just an observation regarding libgl1-mesa-glx and the NVIDIA driver. I don't know exactly what the libgl1-mesa-* packages account for. They seem to me to not be necessary when using the NVIDIA driver and I even suspect that they're not needed even when using the nouveau driver. libgl1-mesa-glx inclu...

Re: LXDE not saving setings.

It's a bug.
You have to delete the system-wide pcmafm config.
Delete /usr/share/lxde/pcmanfm and your configurations should stick.

It's working very well but you need an unstable/experimental system. See: http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=65263

It may be a video driver issue, both won't work if you don't have GL support. You could reinstall your video driver.

If it works in private browsing it may be a cookie issue. Simply clear your cookies and cache and try again.

-edit- deleting the contents of ~/.macromedia too will remove the flash cookies as well.

Re: LMDE (Tracking SID, or other non-standard) BREAKAGES!

Use aptitude (full-upgrade). It will always offer to install just the packages that won't need others being removed.
