Re: Installing without DVD - smaller version?

You can use PLoP boot manager to boot from USB (even if your BIOS doesn't support it): http://www.plop.at/en/bootmanager.html
You can also boot LMDE live directly from the HD: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=141&t=56269

Re: Firefox no longer localized after upgrade

Follow the instructions at http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?p=315606#p315606 Basically you will replace the package from Mint for the one from Mozilla (download the Dutch version). *You can skip the part about changing the ownership of /opt/firefox and update it as you did by opening it as ...

Re: installing sopcast on lmde

If you extract the package, I assume you will get a structure like this: usr>lib>libstdcwhatever
so you open the terminal inside the lib folder (where libstdc is) and run the copy command from there.

Re: Language support

In Debian this configuration is made automatically according with your options during installation and can be changed with 'dpkg-reconfigure locales'. LMDE should have taken care of this too, if it didn't, probably something went wrong during installation or the DVD might have had some flaw. Maybe l...

Re: Garbled text when scrolling

As far as I know, the driver for GF8200 is the 195 in the repos or 256 in nvidia's site (or sgfxi).
The 173 that you got there is for FX5000 series.

Re: Switch from squeeze to lmde with sources.list

I suggest that you add the repo, run 'apt-get update', install linuxmint-keyring and then open Synaptic and choose in the left column LMDE's repo so you see what you have available. You can also select mint-meta-debian and look in its properties what packages it includes. Why? You already have Icewe...

Re: Language support

I'm using Debian Sid. I'm no expert on this. What can I say? - /etc/environment here is empty. - Unless capitalization makes no difference then there's no de_DE.utf8. /usr/share/i18n/SUPPORTED only lists de_DE.UTF-8 UTF-8 de_DE ISO-8859-1 de_DE@euro ISO-8859-15 (bold is mine) As an example, /etc/def...

Re: Love Mint Debian...but uShare?

Try this: - go to http://sourceforge.net/projects/ushare/files/ - expand uShare 1.1a and download the tar.bz2 package - extract the folder and open the terminal inside it. - read the README file - run sudo apt-get install build-essential pkg-config libupnp3-dev libgupnp-dlna-1.0-dev - run ./configur...

Re: installing sopcast on lmde

You must be with the terminal opened in the folder where libstdc++.so.5etc. is. Then don't type libstdc++.so.5*, instead type the proper name of the library (like you can start typing libstdc and then hit Tab and the name autocompletes).

Re: installing sopcast on lmde

First open the terminal inside the sopcast foder and run make as a normal user. Then run sudo make install PREFIX=/usr/local That's what the instructions are saying, but note they talk about vlc python bindings too. I don't know what that is and I didn't find a package for it so you may have instead...

Re: Can't Install Google Earth in Linux Mint Debian (SOLVED)

I'm not sure but I think that the incompatibilities are with the xorg version. Like NVIDIA keeps updating its drivers for old cards so they keep compatible with the new xorg versions. But ATI doesn't do that so one has to use older o.s. like Lenny, or Hardy, for instance.

Re: installing sopcast on lmde

Or http://packages.debian.org/squeeze/libstdc++5 EDIT- maybe the package is for Ubuntu (I know it says Debian too, but you know..). That doesn't mean that it can't be installed in Debian though but then maybe it needs to be tweaked. EDIT2- maybe you could download the 0.3.3 tar.gz file and read the ...

Re: Can't Install Google Earth in Linux Mint Debian (SOLVED)

You couldn't do any good to your system by installing nvidia packages in a system with an ati card :!: So you will have to boot in recovery mode and uninstall all the nvidia packages you installed. Then when you got a graphic screen back then you could try booting again in recovery mode and running ...
