Re: Gnome shell on LMDE

Don't be sadistic, whirly (that thread is from the time GNOME3 was still in experimental). You shouldn't have problems, from what I read (I use sid, but with Xfce). But I don't know what changing to Debian testing does to Mint's own apps. I.e., I had mintinstall here, but for an unknown reason to me...

Re: Make Release - Installing tar.bz2 Program

You probably missed the first step: search it in the repo. apt-get install musescore (in case the Mint repo doesn't have it, enable the Debian testing repo temporarily, update packages list, install musescore, disable Debian's repo and update package list again). It's version 1.0 but version 1.1 sho...

Re: Comparison: XFCE vs MATE (Gnome 2)

For a full custom Xfce menu I think you need to edit its text file (there used to be a third-party GUI for that, check Google).

Re: Right click in thunar; keep mouse button pressed (SOLVED

Yep, that would be really lame. So if the Mint theme has this bug it must be fixed. Some themes from murrine-themes in Debian have this bug and it's due to the parameter "gtk-menu-popup-delay" in their gtkrc. One should simply remove/comment that line and it will be fixed. http://bugs.debian.org/cgi...

Re: How to reinstall WinXp without losing LMDE?

It's not exactly what you're asking nor do I know about those MS EULAs. But a good way to run XP would be to install it in VirtualBox in your Mint if the netbook is good enough for that. In VB you can always take snapshots of the virtual machine and just roll back to one of those in case XP get comp...

Re: Changing the default date format for my locale

Can't you change the default date time in Claws mail itself? The usual strings you can find in 'man strftime'.
For the format you asked it's '%a %d %b %Y'

Do you have alsamixer (alsa-utils) to check if anything isn't muted?

Re: Square wheels or what to upate ?

I imagine this situation occurred mainly because of the GNOME transition. So the Xfce edition users were somewhat sacrificed for that. But all-in-all the concept of a safe-rolling edition is valid and, IMO, still being applied even considering this situation LMDE users are facing now. I would think ...

Re: building Cinnamon (sid)

 never mind, it would be remarkable if it worked.
Anyway, I suppose Cinnamon will come to Mint/Debian with the next update pack.

edit- BTW, I think those are just warnings, the crash must be something more serious.

Re: enlightenment installation error, and svn error

I've installed it once with easy_e17.sh in Debian (not LMDE) and it was very simple (just has to have all the needed dependencies). It was probably some months to a year ago. I know it doesn't help but just a heads-up that that script usually works fine. It may really be some problem with subversion...

Re: KDE SC 4.7.2 enters Debian (amd64 and i386)

I'm with 4.7.4 upgraded from 4.6.5 with the apt.conf.d/file The upgrade went fine but I had several little quirks like oxygen-gtk not behaving as expected and virtuoso strangling the CPU so I eventually cleaned all the settings to start from a fresh desktop. - deleted everything kde related in /tmp ...

Re: building Cinnamon (sid)

Yes, zero. If you didn't uninstall it you could try that.

Code: Select all

# cd /usr/lib
# ln -s libmozjs.so.8d libmozjs185.so.1.0
You can try with libmozjs.so.9d too (afterwards) to see which behaves better, in case it works.

Re: building Cinnamon (sid)

It's just that they use different names, IMO. Debian has versions 8 and 9 while Ubuntu has this 1.8.5 that I suspect is just version 8.5. Maybe Cinnamon would have to be rewritten for Debian compatibility or just it would have to be able to build in Debian but I don't understand about this stuff. An...

Re: building Cinnamon (sid)

I've edited the dependencies of the deb file: http://www.sendspace.com/file/ddi2np
But beware, even if it installs, I have no idea if it will work specially because of the different version of libmozjs that Ubuntu uses (my uneducated guess).

Re: KDE SC 4.7.2 enters Debian (amd64 and i386)

Gene, reboot and it may be fine. I always have problems when I logout and then log back in (I thought it could be because I use systemd but it seems it's a kde/kdm problem).

GNOME has its own build tools and maybe Cinnamon use those.

Re: nvidia GeForce PNY 6200 graphics card [ SOLVED ]

The GF 6200 uses the current driver, not the legacy one.
You can use sgfxi to install it or download it from the NVIDIA site (or use the Debian packages for it, but I've never done so).
