Re: Make IceWM default startup

BTW, you can delete either /usr/share/xsessions/icewm-session.desktop or /usr/share/xsessions/IceWM.desktop as they are redundant and just clutter the login window with two entries that both run icewm-session

Re: How to change default "places" (home, desktop, computer,

For mintmenu it can be changed in its preferences (right-click) IIRC.
Generally you can set them up by editing ~/.config/user-dirs.dirs

Re: Another DE option for Mint 12 - Cinnamon

To install Cinnamon in Debian, try editing the dependencies in the control file (Ubuntu always change their names, otherwise people would just install 'their' apps on Debian).

Re: MintUpdate-Debian - is it now safe to use?

My system is working fine excerpt for the Update Manager. A few weeks ago it started with hanging after being started. Before that it worked flawlessly. The only way to end it is by agreeing to kill the process as it is not responding anymore. I'm using the advised repositories for "testing". I cou...

Re: I want to upgrade Gnome 2 to Gnome 3.2 in LMDE

Ok but how can I do it? Is there some tutorial for it? I want to upgrade my Gnome 2 in LMDE for the new Gnome3 (I dont want the Mint Shell). Simply replace the repositories in /ect/apt/sources.list from the mint repositories to the Debian 'testing' ones. ## testing deb http://sft.if.usp.br/debian/ ...

Re: KDE SC 4.7.2 enters Debian (amd64 and i386)

You missed the basics: install KDE. . . Added the Qt.kde.debian repo Added the kde keyring: sudo apt-get install pkg-kde-archive-keyring sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install kde-full sudo apt-get -t experimental-snapshots dist-upgrade reboot . .

Re: KDE SC 4.7.2 enters Debian (amd64 and i386)

It's been asked for as a wishlist: http://lists.debian.org/debian-qt-kde/2010/11/msg00161.html People are discussing alternative package managers for Wheezy, it seems, at http://lists.debian.org/debian-qt-kde/2011/11/msg00096.html But the best way to know about kpackagekit specifically could be to g...

Hit q

This is the app apt-listchanges. It shows you important changes before applying the updates. You either keep it and hit q after reading what it says or you uninstall the package apt-listchanges.

Re: idea: use Iceweasel instead of supporting own Firefox

Interesting question. I usually default to Chrome (although Chromium is now following it closely) and have Firefox from Mozilla (the latest I 'installed' in my home folder). Mint's solution comes from an apprehension to users crying if they had Iceweasel. It's understandable. Linux users must evolve...

Re: k3b, wodim, cdrtools, cdrecord

If I want some ISO properly burnt I use wodim (as root) directly.
If I want it really properly burnt I use -sao and speed=4 (CD) or speed=2 (DVD).

Re: Gnome3 for the experienced (FUN Stuff!!!)

You can either use a pinning file for the apps that should be fetched from experimental (I don't have mine anymore as I eventually uninstalled GNOME 3) or use aptitude instead of apt-get as aptitude will give you solutions for what you want (just hit 'n' until it offers the one you want).

Re: Firefox beta?

For the firefox beta you would probably have to download it from mozilla, extract it and use it (you can use /usr/share/applications/firefox.desktop from the Mint package by just editing the paths for the 'Exec', 'TryExec' and 'Icon' keys - so if you remove the firefox package make a backup of that ...

Re: systemd (re)entered testing today! Should Mint adopt it?

First I made the recommended backup copy: # cp -av /sbin/init /sbin/init.sysvinit Then I've installed it here in sid with: # apt-get install systemd-sysv systemd-gui # echo "systemd-sysv hold"|dpkg --set-selections # ln -sf /proc/self/mounts /etc/mtab reboot. Works fine with the Debian kernel.

Hi Mint users. EOG is version 3.x in wheezy so that should be the reason why it won't work. It works fine in GNOME 3 (to set the background).

Re: A swap ainda e realmente util?
