Re: box can sleep but not hibernate (and could do both on na

I don't know if it's the same thing, but what if you run

Code: Select all

$ dbus-send --system --print-reply --dest="org.freedesktop.UPower" \
/org/freedesktop/UPower org.freedesktop.UPower.Hibernate

Re: Status of LMDE Fluxbox?

Kendall, there's a menu script for IceWM (originally from red-hat, I think) that coupled with lxmenu-data replicates the LXDE menu in it. anticapitalista from antiX, tweaked it so it would generate a Fluxbox menu instead. See http://antix.freeforums.org/better-script-for-xdg-menu-in-icewm-t2822.html...

Re: Which Mint is lighter, Fluxbox or LXDE?

In the newest Firefox (I suppose that Seamonkey/Iceape may be the same) in the about:memory page there are buttons for minimizing memory usage. I would think that they may be useful for machines with limited RAM.

Re: LMDE Anti-X

Mint Fluxbox will be based on Debian already. I don't think having two different window manager would make sense for it as there are already other Mint editions with other desktop environments and the most important is that the WM/DE used is well configured. I don't know who respins Mint Fluxbox but...

Re: Minitube 1.5 in LMDE

I don't know about Minitube but usually it isn't advisable to use an Ubuntu PPA on a Debian based system.
If or when it breaks again one can consider solutions like the ones posted before.

Re: New Iso

As I said, I didn't try the ISO. I have a GF6200 too (and an Athlon XP 1700+). I use GNOME 3 in Debian and it runs pretty well (but with the proprietary driver installed with the sgfxi script). The fact that it booted slowly I suspect hasn't to do with the graphics driver. After it got to the deskto...

Re: New Iso

And does that machine work well with the installed system? You know those Athlons heat up a lot and their heatsink have to be dusted otherwise they start to behave badly. On the other hand maybe you should tell us the graphic card it uses. It may be more related to that and it may help to troublesho...

Re: Login Screen Settings not unlocking.

Yep, I suggested to Clem (I think) to remove the desktop file for gdmsetup as it's broken and probably won't be fixed as gdm3 is the 2.30 version and for GNOME 3 the 'User account' window allows to set automatic login. People can set it by editing /etc/gdm3/daemon.conf (if it's worthwhile maybe a li...

Is it the 64-bit ISO?
I think the Athlon supports only 32-bit.

Re: LMDE RC

Hi, regarding some partitions in /etc/fstab being pointed to None I'm thinking that maybe you guys simply forgot to set a mount point to them while installing. If it's like so then maybe the fstab generator in the installer could instead just leave the partitions (that people forget or intentionally...

Re: Fixes that I want (LMDE RC)

To disable the startup beep is easy: just edit the gdm3 conf file or probably installing the sound themes disables it automatically. For the shutdown beep then I don't know (nor how to make GNOME work with a login/logout sound; actually I think there's a thread on this in Debian forum but it involve...

Re: Minitube 1.5 in LMDE

You either wait a couple of days for it to come to wheezy or you enable the sid repository, run apt-get update, install minitube, disable the sid repository and run apt-get update again.

Have you run 'sudo apt-get update'?
Also check your sources.list in case it isn't a new installation.

Re: LMDE RC

man fstab should be easy. You can look for an fstab guide in Google too. # /dev/sda1 UUID=b075c8bc-ce95-47d2-81b2-be0ed9e792d4 None ext4 rw,errors=remount-ro 0 0 . . # /dev/sda4 UUID=258B-EB7F None fat32 rw,errors=remount-ro 0 0 . Those mount points are pointing to nowhere.

Re: how/where to ask questions about APT and its tools?

You could try installing the debian-reference package and read the parts not only for apt but also for dpkg which is the basic package tool in Debian (and the one you may need to solve some issues). 'man apt' and 'man dpkg' will help too. BTW, in case you're interested, there are these new ISOs (tes...

Re: LMDE RC

/dev/sda1 and /dev/sda4 have no mount points. Try to create folders to mount them and then point fstab to these folders.
First mount them manually just to check.
Example:
# mkdir /mnt/sda1
# mount /dev/sda1 /mnt/sda1

Re: LMDE (gnome and xfce) new isos up for testing

This might be a bug: The new xfce iso doesn't seem to like the btrfs file system so better stick with ext4. Tried btrfs and it hang on boot, had to re-install and go ext4 I think so. I'm quite sure btrfs still doesn't have a fsck tool so it won't really work out-of-the-box. In this case it's obviou...

Re: LMDE RC

The 'xfce docky' is just a panel with launchers (may be set to auto-hide too). You can move the current panel to the top and add a new panel only with launchers below.
Explore the panel preferences.

Re: LMDE RC

btrfs hangs at boot because it wants to check the file system and there's no tool for that yet. Maybe editing fstab for the file system not be checked (0 0) would allow it to complete the boot.
