Do you know about debdelta? It saves a lot of time with those big packages like libreoffice (and even with not so big ones).

Re: How to move to Debian Unstable?

1) KEEP your 'testing' lines in sources.list and ADD the 'unstable' lines. You'll need the 'testing' repo enabled in case you want to downgrade a broken package.
2) You need to install the keyring for the Opera repo. See: http://deb.opera.com/

Re: looking for mint-debian-installer information

If you understand the code you could download the source code and look at it

Code: Select all

apt-get source mint-debian-installer
Otherwise you may email the developers (you may see its author(s) in the source code or mail the LMDE developers) and ask for help.

Re: Theme Brainstorming for Gnome3

secipolla, what icon set are you using & how did you get that dusty look in Adwaita? Looks very nice BTW, I rather like the background. The GTK3 theme is Drakfire-Caffe. I deleted some spurious files that were left inside, corrected the index.theme file and added the Human Brown GTK2 theme. The...

cbowman57 wrote:@secipolla, how did that gdm tweaker run after you implemented your changes?
I didn't implement them ;-) (posted if someone wanted to try).
-edit- the gdm tweaker ran fine but I didn't change the ownership of /var/lib/gdm3/gschemas.compiled (without doing so it doesn't work).

Sam, it seems this theme is commented to show what affects what. Don't know if it will add to what you already learned, though.

Re: LMDE BREAKAGES - read here first - Update 5 august 2011

This thread should be removed from the 'sticky' threads and maybe even have its name changed. LMDE now uses the 'incoming/latest' repos and these 'breakages' don't reflect that.

Congratulations, Sam! BTW, have you tried it with the Buuf icon themes. I think it has a somewhat similar look. http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/buuf+icon+theme?content=44539 http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/BuuF-Deuce-iconset?content=46201 http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Buuf?con...

Re: Debian Kernels (Solved)

Dear ghostdawg, the kernel 3.0 runs pretty fine here (plain old desktop). As any kernel it may work better with some setups than with others. Regarding kernels, the are two things to consider. If the one one's using works then there may be no need to upgrade (but to not receive the upgrades automati...

Thank

I use the Debian 'unstable' repositories. But I think kernel 3.0 will come to Debian 'testing' soon because it's been on 'unstable' for two weeks already.

Re: Where has Ctl/F gone?

Sorry for not helping but it seems it's something related to the key mapping maybe (like the ctrl+f could be triggering something else).

Re: Where has Ctl/F gone?

I mean reconfigure it in LMDE (with' dpkg-reconfigure keyboard-configuration').
But first I would install a light window manager (like openbox for instance) and see if Ctrl-F works there. If it does then the problem is with GNOME's configuration, not system wide.

Re: Where has Ctl/F gone?

Hmm, this looks to be something specific to your system. I never had this problem in Debian (but then I'm using GNOME 3, not 2).
Anyway, if someone using LMDE has this problem too then they will answer.

If you reconfigure the keyboard do you think it could help?

Re: Gnome3 for the experienced (FUN Stuff!!!)

There's a GUI app to tweak gdm3's settings (including auto-login): https://github.com/Nano77/gdm3setup I got that deb package, cleaned some backup files that were left inside and corrected the dependency from 'gdm' to 'gdm3'. Get it at http://www.sendspace.com/file/f5rdg7 Note that according to the ...

Re: LMDE SpinX3 Wishlist

Hi, sorry for not reading the thread, but maybe it's still time to suggest that LMDE comes with sgfxi. It's a very stable and simple way to install proprietary graphic drivers (specially NVIDIA's). And by now LMDE users shouldn't be afraid of having to go to console terminal to install them. Of cour...

You could use the 'latest' pack which is pre-tested and pay attention to any warnings you get regarding the upgrades.

Re: Debian Kernels (Solved)

Well, I have an old single-core Athlon XP and by means of simply upgrading the kernel I have for some time now $ uname -a Linux debian 3.0.0-1-686-pae #1 SMP Sun Jul 24 14:27:32 UTC 2011 i686 GNU/Linux I read somewhere that the pae kernel is slower but for me it works as usual. Re: LMDE vs. Debian

And if you do want to point LMDE to squeeze then better you get the old LMDE/GNOME ISO and change the sources.list to squeeze before upgrading (the Xfce ISO is already post-squeeze). But the Mint apps from the Mint repo will eventually break if you update them (they depend mostly on python and will ...

Re: LMDE BREAKAGES - read here first - Update 5 august 2011

BTW, if the Mint repos (latest/incoming) prove to work well (as they should) then Wheezy users and of its derivatives like antiX may want to point their sources.list to it. Then better people donate to not overload the servers  (or the community may have to ask the universities to mirror them ...
