Re: [Solved] Where's the "Tags Panel" in Rednotebook
I wanted the right panel on (just because). Took me a few minutes to figure out to make it appear when the default is set to have it off, but I done it! You need to open ~/.rednotebook/configuration.cfg with a text editor. Then look for this line near the end of the file: showTagsPane=0 . Just chang...

Re: Want to install Mint 19 on a laptop (BUT...)
Got it! :) Took me a bit of messing about, but I figured it out. When you start up the laptop (ASUS X55U, in this case), you need to hit ESC, and not one of the F keys to get the BIOS screen. It's one of the first UEFI computers, so there is no fast boot option that I could find. So, anyway, if any...

Want to install Mint 19 on a laptop (BUT...) [SOLVED]
Hi, All! Mint 19 is out! Hooray! But I have a wee problem with the laptop computer I have Mint 18.4 Xfce installed on. I was't paying attention and didn't install it so that the UEFI/BIOS screen screen thing comes on first when booting. Can anyone how tell me how to install the new version with a US...

Re: How to get started with Geany & Ruby?
Somebody suggested to me that Ruby was a good place to start. I can always pick my brother's brain for Python later, since that's what he deals with for a living. I just want to do this for a bit of simple fun. Nothing too fancy (yet). And Geany keeps showing up as an IDE that can be used for severa...

How to get started with Geany & Ruby?
Hi, all! I'm not exactly a newbie with Linux (having made the right choice 7 years ago), but I've never really had a go at programming anything in all this time. I just recently started tinkering around the beginners' course on Rube in Codecdemy . It vaguely reminds me of some college classes I took...

Good Choice, Cripple73!
I moved away from "M$ Windoze" about 7 years ago.
Haven't even considered Windows since.

Re: Straying icons in the Xfce desktop
Additional bit:
Of course, no sooner had I posted that last message than the straying icons changed up.
The two of twelve that had been moving about have stayed put.
But a different one has moved a couple of times.
Does anyone know if this is this just a little quirk in Xfce?
Thanks!

Straying icons in the Xfce desktop
Hi! Got a mildly annoying aesthetic issue with the Xfce desktop. I've got several icons on the desktop and like having them arranged in a certain order. Basically the more frequently ones are on the top left, and the least used are on the bottom left. For some reason, though two icons in particular ...

Re: Icon issue with FreeOffice by SoftMaker
Hi hi, leadwtZ: 1) If I download MS files for my classes, it doesn't always work quite right in LibreOffice, but will in FreeOffice. I also like to tinker with different software too. Just because. 2) I haven't figured out how to get all the fonts I like on FreeOffice. Might not be a problem with th...

Re: Icon issue with FreeOffice by SoftMaker
Thanks.
Hadn't tried changing the individual icons like that before.
That's cool.
Nor did I think about contacting Soft Maker about that issue.
That's just way to obvious (or something).

Icon issue with FreeOffice by SoftMaker
Hi! I'm having an bit of an aesthetic issue with the installation of FreeOffice by SoftMaker. When I installed it, the icons for other apps software got replaced by the FreeOffice equivalents. The Gnumeric and LibreOffice files I have show the PlanMaker file icon. Likewise the LibreOffice Writer fil...

Re: Making a shortcut for the keyboard switcher
I should've replied sooner but I've been distracted by going back to classes and all that fun stuff.
I accidentally stumbled on the default hot key combination to change the Cinnamon keyboard switcher.
It's Shift-Caps Lock.
Thanks for your response too.

[SOLVED] Making a shortcut for the keyboard switcher
Hi! Does anyone know how I can create a keyboard shortcut to cycle through keyboards for the keyboard switcher in Cinnamon? It works well enough with the mouse, but I am in the process of (slowly) making vocabulary flash cards in Mnemosyne, and am having to switch keyboard layouts rather often for t...

Re: Toshiba Satellite A-100 - USB live installer ignored
I was thinking that's probably the case.
I'll keep plugging at it and see if I can get it going somehow.
Thanks for your time, though.

Re: RedNoebook not working now
Run it from a terminal. You will probably get an errormessage. I did that. Got an error message about a missing thing called pyyaml (or some such). so I did this: sudo apt-get install --reinstall python3-yaml And now it mostly works. The Cloud and Tag panels don't display anything now. But at least...

Re: RedNoebook not working now
Maybe it doesn't work because the ppa version you installed isn't for the same ubuntu release your mint is based on? Backwards and forwards compatibility just don't work in Linux so you should install software for your release if you are going to expect it to work. I'd try uninstalling it, getting ...

Re: Toshiba Satellite A-100 - USB live installer ignored
Is the USB bootable? Can you test booting to it on another pc? It didn't occur to me to try booting another computer with that USB stick. I booted another computer just fine. However, I did notice that the other computer's BIOS set up recognized it as a USB HDD. But the Toshiba didn't show that in ...

Re: Toshiba Satellite A-100 - USB live installer ignored
@ Mynaaardt How did you install Peppermint 7.? Also with a USB-stick.? Maybe you need to boot from a Live Linux DVD+R. If no internal DVD-drive, get an external USB DVD-drive/burner. Another lightweight Linux distro that's compatible with very old computers is Linux Lite(= a 900MB ISO file). .........
