Re: Can Dropbox (& Nautilus) work in XFCE?

For the next time you need to install Dropbox on Xfce, I think that this site has very good instructions: http://www.olpcnews.com/forum/index.php?topic=4664.0 In addition you may want to try the Thunar Dropbox plugin: http://www.softwarebakery.com/maato/thunar-dropbox.html Thanks for the informatio...

Re: Why isn't Mint 9 LXDE on the home page?

Thanks! Nice to know it's still there. I just thought it was kind of odd that it wasn't showing on the list of available versions of Linux Mint, that's all...

Re: USB floppy driver

Mint 10 Julia, kernel 2.6.37 rc2 I am also trying to use an external USB floppy drive to read some old disks that I unearthed while cleaning here. I feel like I'm really close, but can't quite persuade it to work. I can boot into Windows XP, and the drive works there. I can read and write to floppi...

Re: Can Dropbox (& Nautilus) work in XFCE?

Additional: I couldn't help but notice that this package did not make Dropbox a startup app. So I did a little messing about with settings and figured out how to make it a startup app. Just in case anyone else wants to make Dropbox work with Thunar. That package works just fine, but it looks like y...

Re: USB floppy driver

 http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=4221425 http://art.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=679602 Thanks for the help, but it was a no go on that particular USB floppy drive. I emailed the manufacturer, and found out that particular piece of gear won't work with Linux anyway. Oh well, it ...

[Solved] Why isn't Mint 9 LXDE on the home page?

Hi there!

I haven't tried Mint 9 LXDE, but I don't see it on the Linux Mint homepage any more. It wasn't discontinued, was it?

[Solved] USB floppy driver

Hi! I have an older USB floppy drive, but it won't work when I plug it in. Wehn I do plug it in, I get a floppy disk icon, but when I try to mount it, all I get is: Given device "/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/storage_serial_TEAC_TEAC_FD_05PUB" is not a volume or drive would anyone know if there's a d...

Re: Can Dropbox (& Nautilus) work in XFCE?

Don't even install Nautilus. You can get it running with Thunar. Check this out: http://kuki.me/oldforum/topic.php?id=300 If you don't want it to start dropbox everytime, you'll have to run it manually via Terminal or create a menu entry for it to run it. But this page worked perfectly for me to ge...

[Solved] Can Dropbox (& Nautilus) work in XFCE?

Hi, all!

I've started using that Dropbox service on my desktop and laptop. And I like it!

But the thing is, on Linux, Dropbox is geared to running on Nautilus. And I have a netbook with Linux Mint 9-XFCE Can one install Nautilus on XFCE and thereby use Dropbox in an XFCE GUI?

Re: Linux Mint 10 "Julia" released!

I had tried to install Linux Mint 10 earlier and it was a bust. But I did not realize that I had to have the user and machine name and everything exactly the same as the old version for the back up tool to restore everything properly. So I went back to Linux Mint 9 for the time being. I circumvent ...

Re: New LinuxMint version

If your computer is trying to boot off the Data disk then you will need to change that in the BIOS. Usually that happens to me when I have try some of my experiments and removed and replace disk and then replacing my org config then I have to set the boot order back up in the BIOS. :D I discovered ...

Re: New LinuxMint version

What I really did, in hindsight, was not pay attention to the computer name for the new install. That's most likely why LM 10 acted so weird for me. Oh well, I'll try it again when I've got more time off. And a lot more coffee on hand too, methinks! Thanks for the advice all of you gave me; I just m...

Re: Panel problem in LM-10

I figured out the problem; something went amiss with my use of the backup tool when I went to restore my files. I probably just got my user ID name slightly wrong. Oh well, live and learn, eh? I'll try to update to Linux Mint 10 another time when I'm more awake and able to pay attention to those nag...

Re: I can't delete files!

Hi, I believe your UserID is different. Example your old userid is 1000, your new userid might be 1001. What you can do is: - check owner of files - check the UID - add a new user with that same UID - login as the new user Regards, It was probably some annoying little thing like that. I'm sure I ju...

Re: New LinuxMint version

I discovered there is a serious problem (at least in my case) trying to install LM10 using the full install to replace it and the backup tool to restore files and software. The problem is the backup tool! When I restored files and software from LM10 (and later LM9 when I mistakenly thought LM10 was ...

Re: I can't delete files!

Check the permissions of the desired deleting files. I couldn't access the permissions either! After I went and restored LM9 I figured out what the real problem was. Oddly enough; it was the backup tool! I restored LM9, used the backup tool to restore software and files. And guess what? LM9 was act...

Re: Release: Linux Mint 10 RC

Wow, that's really odd. I've had no such trouble with LM10. Sounds like you had some kind of weird permission issue. Okay, I figured out what the problem was. It was not LM10 as such. What it was was the backup tool when I restored either my files, my software or both. I put LM9 back on my computer...
