Toshiba Satellite A-100 - USB live installer ignored

Hi! I wanted to try a live install of Linux Mint 18.2 Xfce on an old warhorse of a laptop. It's a Toshiba Satellite A100. It is old, and a 32 bit machine. But made to last. Living by "waste not want not", I wanted to see how it does running Lubuntu on it. I got to the BIOS to switch the boot order. ...

Re: Mono won't start KeePass from my flash drive

I could be wrong, but I thought you were talking about running KeePass using the (Windows) PortableApps launcher.

If that is the case, then using WINE should be the best solution.

Re: Mono won't start KeePass from my flash drive

Did you try running it through WINE?
That might work.

Re: Can't Install, Trying to Dual Boot

One mistake I made was overlooking the boot order in the BIOS showing up two entries for the live USB I was trying to boot from. One shows as UEFI and the other does not. Of course I kept choosing the wrong one (the not-UEFI one). Hopefully it's something that simple. Worked fine for me when ...

Re: Can one upgrade (sort of) from MATE to Cinnamon?

Right! Finally got somewhere! I downloaded 18.2 beta. Then I verified it right and proper (as I should've done before). Then installed it on a USB with UNetbootin and worked the first time out. Hooray! It was kind of late in the day when I finally got around to getting my desktop to boot ...

Re: Can one upgrade (sort of) from MATE to Cinnamon?

@ austin.texas Silly me! Your link was good. I forgot I tinkered with some of my settings, and I wasn't able to see posts more than a week old. My bad. I fixed that. Just could't sleep at all last night, so I have no brain today. Even after enough coffee to give an elephant the jitters! A s...

Re: Can one upgrade (sort of) from MATE to Cinnamon?

Okay, so I'll just assume that the Mint 18.1 Cinnamon ISO I downloaded is a good file but, for whatever reason, doesn't want to work on my computer nor my desktop. Which could just be because they're both ASUS machines and might be a bit temperamental at my end. :? So, I'll try to download the 18.2 ...

Okay, I followed the instructions and this is the output from my terminal: ~/ISO $ sha256sum -b *.iso 5fc527acee7a8cdeaad08c3e7782217b8b8fcb9f792698dcae2cbc586e2469a5 *linuxmint-18.1-cinnamon-64bit.iso ~/ISO $ gpg --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com --recv-key "27DE B156 44C6 B3CF 3BD7 D291 300F 846B A...

Re: Can one upgrade (sort of) from MATE to Cinnamon?

Yup, verify the ISO and I think there's an option in the grub menu to check the integrity of the files on the burned disc. Give it a few tries. I've experienced seemingly similar issues, then suddenly it worked for no reason I could tell. Installing different desktops can cause issues, which is not...

[SOLVED] Can one upgrade (sort of) from MATE to Cinnamon?

Hi all! I couldn't seem to get any answers to why a live installer for Mint 18.1 (Cinnamon) wouldn't boot my computer. Even though Mint Xfce and Mint MATE live installs worked just fin in booting my computer. My original post about this was here: https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=248...

Re: Mint 18.1 Cinnamon USB installer won't boot properly

Additional:
I used UNetbootin to make those USB drives.
I also tried making a bootable drive through the terminal with the instructions here: mintguide.org/tools/317-make-a-bootable-flash-drive-from-an-iso-image-on-linux-mint.html
Still no joy in getting Mint Cinnamon to boot, though.

Mint 18.1 Cinnamon USB installer won't boot properly

Hi there! I wanted to 'test drive' Mint 18.1 Cinnamon. But it won't boot from the live installer. On neither my desktop nor laptop. :? The Mint Cinnamon USB installer is ignored, and the computer just boots from the current install on the HDD. Seems a bit odd, though, because I have no such problems...

I've got no sound! :P (mint 18.1 xfce)

Hi! I installed Mint 18.1 Xfce (64 bits) late last week and only now did I realize I've got no sound happening. I tried to see if there was a sound controller applet for the task bar, but no such luck. Couldn't find anything in the configuration or setup menus either. Any idea how to sort th...

How to go about Proxy LAN settings in Xfce

Hi!

Having trouble getting an app running properly though WINE.

I keep getting an error message about not being able to access Internet_HTTP_Post 0x40010275.

Near as I can tell, it's a Proxy LAN setting.
Which is something I don't know how to tinker with.

Any advice on how to do that in Xfce?

Having Trouble with Proxy LAN and/or gufw in Mint Xfce

Hi there! I am having a bit of trouble with a Windows application running in a new installation of Mint 18.1 (Xfce edition). As far as I can tell the problem is probably Proxy LAN settings. I tried gufw both enable and disabled, but it made no difference. The application I'm running is Hero Lab . It...
