Re: New LinuxMint version

What I really did, in hindsight, was not pay attention to the computer name for the new install. That's most likely why LM 10 acted so weird for me. Oh well, I'll try it again when I've got more time off. And a lot more coffee on hand too, methinks! Thanks for the advice all of you gave me; I just m...

Re: Panel problem in LM-10

I figured out the problem; something went amiss with my use of the backup tool when I went to restore my files. I probably just got my user ID name slightly wrong. Oh well, live and learn, eh? I'll try to update to Linux Mint 10 another time when I'm more awake and able to pay attention to those nag...

Re: I can't delete files!

Hi, I believe your UserID is different. Example your old userid is 1000, your new userid might be 1001. What you can do is: - check owner of files - check the UID - add a new user with that same UID - login as the new user Regards, It was probably some annoying little thing like that. I'm sure I ju...

Re: New LinuxMint version

I discovered there is a serious problem (at least in my case) trying to install LM10 using the full install to replace it and the backup tool to restore files and software. The problem is the backup tool! When I restored files and software from LM10 (and later LM9 when I mistakenly thought LM10 was ...

Re: I can't delete files!

Check the permissions of the desired deleting files. I couldn't access the permissions either! After I went and restored LM9 I figured out what the real problem was. Oddly enough; it was the backup tool! I restored LM9, used the backup tool to restore software and files. And guess what? LM9 was act...

Re: Release: Linux Mint 10 RC

Wow, that's really odd. I've had no such trouble with LM10. Sounds like you had some kind of weird permission issue. Okay, I figured out what the problem was. It was not LM10 as such. What it was was the backup tool when I restored either my files, my software or both. I put LM9 back on my computer...

[Solved] I can't delete files!

Hi! I reinstalled Linux Mint 9 because I spent all day yesterday trying to install Linux Mint 10 and it did not work. Now I have reinstalled Linux Mint 9, and used the back up tool tin reinstall my data files and my software. And now I cannot delete any files! I can not permanently delete anything i...

Re: Release: Linux Mint 10 RC

I have had no end of trouble trying (unsuccessfully) to install LM 10 today. I've spent the whole day trying to install it. And I do mean the entire day! It wouldn't be so bad if it works, but that's the problem! It does not work properly! I have a dual boot computer; Ubuntu and Linux Mint (o...

Re: Panel problem in LM-10

Weird!

Just as a long-shot, I tried to drag a desktop launcher to a panel, and then I was able to have a panel launcher!

It didn't behave like that with Mint 9.

Lots of fun!

[Solved] Panel problem in LM-10

Hi!

I wanted to add some menu items to my panel. I right click, and I get the "add to panel" option along with the other. But when I select that, nothing happens! I can add launchers to the desktop that way, but for some reason it won't put menu items on my panel...

Here's the link to the Shiki pages at Gnome Look. You might like Shiki Dark Mint or Shiki Colors, they are really cool: http://gnome-look.org/content/search.php?xsortmode=new&search=1&type=0&user=&text=shiki&sort=0&scorefilter=0&license=99&page=0 Thanks... But I can't seem to get it on my set of th...

[Solved] Mint 9 Themes in Mint 10; how do you do that?

Well! It's taking me far longer to upgrade to Mint 10 from Mint 9 than expected. All day, in fact. I think that has more to do with the age of my computer and trying to keep it a dual boot system. But I digress ... But anyway, I rather like the Shiki-Wise theme that came with Mint 9, but I can't see...

Re: New LinuxMint version

Oh Bugger! I must've done something wrong! I thought I was following the directions nicely to upgrade LinuxMint to version 10. However... [*] after the first go, I went to reboot and on the dual boot option it showed Linux Mint 9; no sign of Linux Mint 10. [*] On the second go; same result. [...

Re: New LinuxMint version

You don;t say what your old version was. But if your original set up used a data partition mounted on the directory " /home " , it is easy. With the new installer going , when you come to the partitioning part , just carefully select your original root partition , and set it t mount on " / " and fo...

[Solved] New LinuxMint version

Can someone tell me of a [relatively] painless way to upgrade to the new version of Linux mint on dual boot computer?

Even if it's slow, that's fine; I just want to avoid copying all my user files first and redoing the installation from scratch with a new version...

Re: Music Drops my Internet connection EVERY TIME!

Sounds like Rhythmbox is trying to lease a new address or something. Are you using the same player in mint or ubuntu? if yes then try alternate player. if no then No matter what music player your dropping your internet. Then my only guess would be a hardware issue in soundcard , like a short sendin...

OldManHook wrote:If you are using Last Fm or any of the music services or tagging programs try logging out of all such programs-restart might help :o
Nope! Not using those services!

And even if I do reboot the computer right away, it's still several minutes before I get my Internet back.

Really annoying, that!

Re: Trouble with Rythm Box

No idea about your net connection, but as for the cd not finishing ripping, 4-5 years is a good life for a cd/dvd drive, laser could be a bit worn, so either run a laser-cleaning disk thru it, or get another dvd drive would be a good idea. Replacing it based on age alone would be an idea. The pc it...

Re: Trouble with Rythm Box

Odd. I can think of no reason this would affect your net connection. At all. What hardware do you have? How old is your machine? Is your cd/dvd drive new? Anything you can think to mention that might be relevant? This is rather odd. It's really quite frustrating, this one. My computer is about 4-5 ...
