Re: Can't get Dropbox working properly

ADDENDUM: Dropbox is working now. I'm not entirely sure why. I removed the broken icon from the task bar. I used grsync to copy all the proper Dropbox files into the Mint install. I also deleted four files that were showing with 'unreadable characters' (none of which I've looked at for ages) ...

Re: Can't get Dropbox working properly

Oh, yes.

I did check my Dropbox account online, and it's showing as being synced, even though that's not happening on my Mint installation.

Thanks again!

Can't get Dropbox working properly [SOLVED; sort of]

Hi! I've got Mint 64 bit, Xfce version, installed on a laptop. For some reason I just cannot seem to get Dropbox to run properly. I've tried installing, purging, and reinstalling it several times. From the Terminal, the Software Manager and Synaptic. I keep getting the same result. The only thing sh...

Re: Trying to dual-boot with antiX

Got it! Hooray! 8)

I did no realize there was a separate UEFI start up mode from the USB live drive.
I was wondering why there were two boot options for the USB drive!

Oh well.
At least it's working now.

Thanks for a nudge in the right direction, Pierre!

Oh dear, oh dear!

I guess I didn't pay any attention to the boot options.

I'll try it again!

Thanks for the reply.

Trying to dual-boot with antiX [SOLVED]

Hi there! I tried to install Mint 18.1, Xfce, 64 bit on a laptop I already had antiX 16.1 on. I picked the option to install Mint along with antiX to make a dual boot. I rebooted and no sign of the Linux Mint option, only antiX. I'd already installed antiX with the options for working around UEFI an...

Re: [Resolved] LMDX install (sigh)

Oh, ... NUTS! :x I tried using LMDX again and just like last time it didn't work for me, it failed again today. Few of the Xfce goodies worked and it kept trying to do everything GNOME. And apps were running painfully slow too. Well, it was worth a shot. I don't know why LMDX just won't agree with m...

Re: LMDX install; still need a little help

On the topic of the sound on my LMDX install not being quite right; does anyone know if that would be a memory issue?

I'm using Rythmbox; is that one a bit borderline for memory and sound quality?

Thanks!

Re: LMDX install; still need a little help

HOWEVER , Thunar is acting a little odd. When I right click an item in Thunar, the right click menu disappears as soon as I release the right click key instead of staying put to make the appropriate selection. Does anyone know how to get the right click menu in Thunar to stay put? This was old prob...

[Resolved] LMDX install (sigh)

Hi there! Okay, I decided to have a go at reinstalling LMDX on my desktop computer. It was a bust a few months ago when I gave it a go, because almost nothing Xfce worked at all, and the installation was using mostly Gnome apps (like Nautilus instead of Thunar, etc). So far, this time, it looks like...

Re: [Solved] My installation of LMDX failed (ARGH!)

Okay, I did an install of LMDX on my desktop all over again yesterday and this morning. Who needs a social life anyway!

I actually READ the fixes posted by merlwiz79 before that, so everything seems to be good now, except for a minor graphic thing or two...

Re: My installation of LMDX failed (ARGH!)

Well, I was kind of surprised (and miffed) by this set of troubles. I've been using a portable install of LMDX for months and it's worked just fine on the laptops I've run it on. So I wasn't really expecting problems with my old PC when I installed it... Oh well, it's not a perfect world, is it? Ac...

Re: My installation of LMDX failed (ARGH!)

in this case try sudo apt-get remove gnome-terminal and then sudo apt-get install xfce4-terminal and the following link is from the xfce wiki http://wiki.xfce.org/recommendedapps (recommended apps for the xfce DE), now depending on your usage is a matter of searching in synaptic, mark for installat...

Re: My installation of LMDX failed (ARGH!)

sudo apt-get install xfce4-terminal will do it post-edit: and after that you might want to look around your install, Clem built LMDE-xfce with some gnome deps, so if you want a sane xfce DE, probably there's a few pkgs you will want to swap. Would that automatically get rid of the old GNOME termina...

Re: My installation of LMDX failed (ARGH!)

No that is not normal My 6-year old desktop with slow celeron CPU , 800M RAM, has little trouble to install many OS, the only thing is it runs slooooww due to celeron low power. Out of fun and playing mood, I installed aptosid few days ago when they release new respin, what a pleasant surprise: it ...

Re: My installation of LMDX failed (ARGH!)

hi M_Mynaardt, the issue with the terminal in LMDE-xfce was first reported here http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=141&t=67502&p=441221&hilit=terminal#p441221; basically LMDE-xfce uses gnome-terminal and since it was updated to gtk3, it has some glitches; your issue with opera, sorry but i...

If anyone could give me some idea how to get this old computer of mine working nicely under LMDX, it would be much appreciated! [Solved] My installation of LMDX failed (ARGH!)

Hi there! Okay, I installed LMDX on my desktop (an ageing PC I bought about 5-6 years ago). Now I did have problems getting the install to put all the updates through the terminal properly. But I got that sorted out. Then I installed the apps I like. Quite a few of them, actually. HOWEVER ... Things...
