Re: My installation of LMDX failed (ARGH!)

in this case try sudo apt-get remove gnome-terminal and then sudo apt-get install xfce4-terminal and the following link is from the xfce wiki http://wiki.xfce.org/recommendedapps (recommended apps for the xfce DE), now depending on your usage is a matter of searching in synaptic, mark for installat...

Re: My installation of LMDX failed (ARGH!)

sudo apt-get install xfce4-terminal will do it post-edit: and after that you might want to look around your install, Clem built LMDE-xfce with some gnome deps, so if you want a sane xfce DE, probably there's a few pkgs you will want to swap. Would that automatically get rid of the old GNOME termina...

Re: My installation of LMDX failed (ARGH!)

hi M_Mynaardt, the issue with the terminal in LMDE-xfce was first reported here http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=141&t=67502&p=441221&hilit=terminal#p441221; basically LMDE-xfce uses gnome-terminal and since it was updated to gtk3, it has some glitches; your issue with opera, sorry but i...

Re: My installation of LMDX failed (ARGH!)

If anyone could give me some idea how to get this old computer of mine working nicely under LMDX, it would be much appreciated! I won't tackle doing this again until at least next week, as my work week starts tomorrow night. But any ideas would be greatly appreciated! I think in this situation , it...

[Solved] My installation of LMDX failed (ARGH!)

Hi there! Okay, I installed LMDX on my desktop (an ageing PC I bought about 5-6 years ago). Now I did have problems getting the install to put all the updates through the terminal properly. But I got that sorted out. Then I installed the apps I like. Quite a few of them, actually. HOWEVER ... Things...

[Solved] Can't update a new install of LMDX at all!

Hi there! I installed LMDX on my desktop computer, deciding to use that to replace Linux Mint 10 (Gnome). I've had a portable install of LMDX which hasn't caused me any grief, but now it is... I can't update at all. I've tried several times. At first I got the "Fix broken packages" message. I've see...

Re: External 3.5" HDD Enclosure

M_Mynaardt. Addonics Mini storage Tower should do what you are asking, but you need to confirm the model and capabilities. They range from IDE / SATA single and RAID with multiple esata or single USB connection. From your description though, my suggestion would be to buy a simple esata and USB dock...

[Solved] External 3.5" HDD Enclosure

Hi there! I'm planning on replacing my desktop within the next year. It's getting on a bit and I'd like to replace it before it dies of old age. Now, the thing is, this computer of mine has a 320 GB and a 120 GB internal drive in it. I don't like the idea of just tossing away good gear, Therefore, I...

Re: Panel launcher (minor problem) for Xfce 4.8

do you mean you want a menu item on the top panel that has a name i.e Games and that when you click on it it lists all your games in a drop down list that you can then select and launch one from?. If so you could use the R click on panel , select panel then add new items, then launcher then add. It...

Panel launcher (minor problem) for Xfce 4.8

Hi! Now that I realize that Xfce 4.8 is not , in fact, an Xfce install gone wrong (need more coffee, eh?)... Does anyone, perchance, know how to make an app launcher in a panel that is just an icon that doesn't actually do anything (except act as a marker)? I like using those to create a sort of dro...

Re: LMDX having ISSUES on an Acer 9410 Laptop

Well, what can I say except: ARRRRRGH!!! :x The thing is I was not paying attention to the fact that Xfce itself had been updated and therefore changed (a lot) with that massive amount of updating with the new LMDX install I did on that Acer 9410. Therefore, like a bit of a knob, I just assumed that...

Re: Acer Aspire 9410 - Hardware problems

Just a quick question about this DIY special of a computer. Once I get the hardware parts fixed (sound system and the CD/DVD) working properly (I hope), should I need to do any messing about to make sure the drivers are right? I guess this is what happens when you buy something cheap! But, oh well...

Re: LMDX having ISSUES on an Acer 9410 Laptop

Here is a page that'll help you fix some of the problems including the menu. http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=110&t=70248 Okay, thanks... I'm trying to reinstall it a third ti...

Re: A couple of funny tings installing Xfce

The sound never worked, or isn't working with xfce ? If it's the latter, summin you can try ... with no guarantee's. Open a terminal and type in alsamixer. Look and see if anything is muted in there and if so unmute and push up the bars where needed. Tis weird but sometimes seems things are muted i...

The 'blank' panel-launchers is an Xfce issue and can be addressed here > http://wiki.xfce.org/ or at the Xfce Forums > http://forum.xfce.org I noticed the terminal 'error message' myself . . . I just went into the Terminal's Properties files and removed it. The xtem works well otherwise. I think it...

Re: Acer Aspire 9410

How did you burn the Mint LiveCD? Did you burn it at the 'slowest speed' possible? Did you burn it as 'image' and not data? From where did you download the Mint .iso file? I have various distro releases of Mint/Debian/Linux on 3 Acer machines > PC, netbook and laptop I've tried doing all those thin...
