Re: LMDE BREAKAGES - nfs broken? Yes!

I removed the package 1:1.2.3-1 (source: nfs-utils 1:1.2.3-1) & Installed an nearlier version 1:1.2.2-5 (source: nfs-utils 1:1.2.2-5) from here: http://snapshot.debian.org/binary/nfs-common/ Which has fixed the problem for me, now, but the question remains was the package broken? Also I am here to ...

Re: what repos do you have enabled?

In addition, I also have this repo enabled, since it's a bit more timely with updates than the standard (mint and debian) repos, security updates in particular are my concern: deb http://mozilla.debian.net/ wheezy iceweasel-3.6 Of course I also have Firefox v4 installed, on my system so far I don't ...

Re: Possible Idea For Mint 11 LMDE? Things I'd Like to See.

Since Ikey supposedly is out of LM team, and considering he was the LMDE maintainer, it'll probably be awhile before some of those CrunchBang features are in LMDE Maybe I missed something, but do you mean there is no more maintainer of LMDE at the moment :?: Just asking, because I love LMDE but if ...

Re: Driver install on LMDE

There is a thread on this forum titled nvidia intel and compiz here: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=141&t=55165

That should have what you need, and I believe there are at least a couple of other nvidia threads on here.

Re: Sysctl has to be run manually?

Edit: My original reply is below, but reading further in the 2nd link I provided, it appears there's an exception because Debian doesn't use /etc/rc.local ? (But the file is there, not sure why?) So section 11.6 on this link discusses startup scripts in Debian: http://www.debian.org/doc/FAQ/ch-custo...

Re: LMDE BREAKAGES - read here first - Update 30 mar 2011

Thank you asymmetros - it must be me then, I saw no warnings whatsoever :( It may be that you have to log out & back in to your desktop or reboot or something before the changes take affect. I know I've at least logged out and back in to my desktop since the most recent Mint Update update and I did...

Re: What software can be removed?

When LMDE was first released in Sept (32 bit) it didn't have evolution installed by default. Then there was a package that came through the updates called 'gnome-core' that added evolution and some other bits. See: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=141&t=62021 From info on that thread, I d...

Re: Mounting issues - Conflicting addresses?

Yay! Glad it worked for you.

And on your 2 other questions, I'm sorry I don't have a good answer. On the issue with each one showing up twice, it's some nautilus and/or udev oddity I think.

Re: What software can be removed?

The first thing I removed was mono and related apps. (i.e. tomboy notes, I replaced with gnote but never use it). Also you should be able to safely remove pulseaudio. Also evolution email and some gnome related thing that's just a meta package, if you don't use evolution for email. And, claws mail i...

Re: Mounting issues - Conflicting addresses?

You'll have to manually add that new info. to your fstab file using your favorite text editor (as root). I usually have a root terminal open and I just type 'gedit /etc/fstab' (no quotes, and type it as root, use gksudo if you're not using a root terminal) and then add each new instance on a separat...

Re: Mounting issues - Conflicting addresses?

The only thing I might suggest is if you have a separate partition(s) on each device, there might be something wonky with the uuid's for the drives or partitions? How are they listed in fstab, /home in particular since that's the one that seems to be having issues? One possible way to solve it is to...

Re: LMDE BREAKAGES - read here first - Update 23 mar 2011

Clem, thanks for the update about the updater. I'm a bit concerned about this: * Fixed "broken packages" bug occuring when some packages need to be removed I guess I (we) could wait to see what that means, but I thought I'd ask for clarification. Does it mean it will remove whatever the dist-upgrade...

Re: give a user admin privileges for everything without root

One thing that might be helpful is a 'root terminal'. I've added a top panel to my desktop so I could throw on some frequently used panel add-ons (like weather and tracker search and etc. etc.) One item available to add is 'root terminal' under Accessories. I generally open it once for things like d...

Re: LMDE BREAKAGES - LIQUORIX- Update 25 mar 2011

Not sure if this report is best posted here, as it applies to a modified LMDE. Upon reboot into the new kernel, I was greeted with a black screen with nothing else. No prompt, no cursor, nothing. None of the fucntions keys did anything. Re-boot into safe mode = same thing. I suspect a problem with ...

Re: Firefox 4 final avialable for 64bit linux

Thanks for the great tutorial! I installed it, because it has some features I wanted to check out. However there are a couple of Add-ons that aren't compatible (FEBE in particular -- it lets you backup your extensions and settings and bookmarks) so I won't use it regularly until that's available. So...

Re: Should I switch to Mint Xfce now that it's Debian based?

I'm currently on my laptop running Debian squeeze, xfce, and this may or may not be helpful. If you ctrl-alt-F1 to a terminal, the first thing you could check is xrandr (try xrandr --help for available options). That has to do with screen resolution. It will have an asterisk next to the on...

Re: Some issues with my LMDE

I could be wrong but if it is related to fonts, I should not be able to enter any other alphabets. The thing is I can enter all but it is just the back space key (moves cursor forward and starts printing gibberish), up and right-left arrows. I can not seem to bring the cursor back at all. All other...

Re: Some issues with my LMDE

Hi Roxterm is the one that I am using currently. It has the same problem with gnome-terminal. Infact I installed roxterm because of that. Can you please explain, how it could be related to fonts? I have seen in other applications that unreadable characters clear up when the correct fonts are instal...
