Re: Replacing old root files into new install of Linux Mint?

Hi Jo71236, In a word, no. Even if you did manage to copy over the correct files Mint would not know that what you copied was actually present on the system so you would never get any updates for what you copied. Mint only "knows" what is on the system if it is actually installed in the proper way. ...

Re: Only Getting digital audio

Hi gsoto83,

Do you have both a sound chip on the Mother Board and a sound card installed? If so you may be able to disable the sound chip in the BIOS. Consult your MB's documentation to see if that is possible.

Re: Only Getting digital audio

Hi gsoto83, Have you tried this yet? Install pavucontrol. Once installed launch it. Switch to the Configuration tab. You should see 2 profiles. Choose the HDMI profile and change it to "Off". Done. P.S. You posted this in the LMDE sub-forum. I hope this was a mistake because LMDE will only be suppor...

Re: Xfce13 Can't Move Items in Panel?

Hi pcpunk, A couple of things: I have Panel 0 at the top and Panel 1 at the bottom. If I open Settings -> Panel then the panel that has focus is surrounded by red dots. How many panels do you have? If you open Settings -> Panel is the panel that has focus is surrounded by red dots? You can see in Se...

Re: Xfce13 Can't Move Items in Panel?

Hi pcpunk,

Did you have a "separator" in the panel that got deleted? Perhaps you need one on the left so you can move items to the right of it.

17.3 and Grub Menu

I got the update to Mate 17.3 last night. It installed without a hitch and when finished I rebooted as instructed. The Grub Menu was still showing Linux Mint 17.2 however. No big deal and easy to fix (if it bothers you). As root edit the file: /etc/grub.d/10_linux Find the line: OS="Linux Mint 17.2 ...

Concerning the black folders, here is a bug report about Chromium, the "mother" of Chrome. This was done by design.

Re: How to remove network icon from toolbar

Hi DesG,

You don't mention which DE you are using so this will have to be a bit general. Names may vary depending on your DE. In settings -> session and startup -> application autostart you should find an entry for the Network Manager (nm-applet). Disable it there.

Re: Google Chrome acting up?

Hi pcpunk,
My Bookmarks Bar Folders are all Black.
So are mine. This happened with the latest Google Chrome update to version 47.0.2526.73. Yes, it's ugly, but nothing to worry about. I can't speak to your youtube issue.

Re: Cannot change password of "Gnome2 key storage"

Hi Magissia,

Although I have never tried this myself (never needed to) I believe you can do this with "seahorse", which you will probably need to install. Do a web search for "seahorse Gnome2 key storage" for more info.

Hope this helps. :D

Re: edit a .deb file

Hi eastexas, I am sure that I am the problem. If so then that makes two of us. I can open a .deb file with the Archive Manager and extract files. However, Archive Manager will not allow me to add the files back again to the .deb file. In your case this is not necessary though. Looking at the link yo...

Hi superkev,

You could use Chrome's own built in Profile Switcher which you can read about here.

Re: Change default browser on Mint 17.2 / XFCE

Hi flyingrhino, I believe you need to: 1. Change browser in XFCE (Settings -> Settings Manager -> Preferred applications -> Opera) and do not do : 3. Change opera to default browser Doing #1 is enough. If, after this, a browser asks if you want it to be the default browser, then answer NO . At least...

Re: Repair MATE? Can't boot without GDM package.

Hi 4ph3x2w1n, First off, lets get the terminology right. MATE is a DE (Desktop Environment). GDM is a DM (Display Manager). LM17 comes with a DM already installed. Namely MDM. Did you remove MDM or simply install GDM alongside MDM? What exactly do you mean by "Can't boot"? Where does it stop? At a b...

Re: GPG public key error, maybe repo not uninstalled totally

Hi LMJ, Glad you got it sorted. Must have been because the ppa was there, but no repo for it. Not quite. A ppa is a repo (repository). You had a repo in your list but there was no public key for that repo. Each package in the repos is digitally signed for authentication purposes. Each repo also has ...

Re: GPG public key error, maybe repo not uninstalled totally

Hi LMJ, The problem is with the first in the list: deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/bit-team/stable/ubuntu trusty main It has a Signing key of D6FDC9D0 which seems to be missing. Since adding the PPA have you done: sudo apt-get update ? If so then you could open "Software Sources", remove the PPA, and t...
