Re: Spurious listing in Places

Hi educatedidiot, Very strange. I would say the thing to do now is: 1. Make sure you can see hidden files in Caja. 2. Create the file ~/.gtk-bookmarks 3. Logout/in I also found this in another thread. Mint Menu -->System Tools -->Caja File Browser -->click on Bookmarks (up in menu bar) -->Edit Bookm...

Re: Spurious listing in Places

Hi educatedidiot, Two place to look are: ~/.config/gtk-3.0/bookmarks ~/.gtk-bookmarks (BTW, something needs to be done about this. If a guy like me, who is definitely more computer savvy than most, has this much trouble just getting a drive to be useable, it amounts to a deal breaker for most people...

Hi GRB,

Mate devs replaced mate-calc with galculator. You can read about it here.

Re: Default Font Color for Mint 17.2

Hi jackerbes,

If it's not in your home folder then perhaps it got deleted somehow. So just create the file in you home folder and edit it as you like. Then logout/in to see the effect.

Re: Default Font Color for Mint 17.2

Hi jackerbes,

.gtkrc-2.0 is a hidden file so you need to make sure you can see hidden files in your file manager.

Re: Mate/Administration/Users Settings

Hi Algeorge,

Don't login as administrator and don't run it as root. You start it from the menu (or where ever) like any other app. If you change something it will then ask for a password.

Re: Switch between cinnamon and mate desktop

Hi jakke5, The "session-choice-button" is on the MDM login screen. I don't know which MDM theme you are using so I can't say exactly where it is, but it is usually in the top right corner. You should have 3 icons on the MDM login screen. One for restart/shutdown, one for language choice, and one for...

Re: Default Font Color for Mint 17.2

Hi jackerbes, The file you want is .gtkrc-2.0 in your Home folder. You can do one of three things here: Change the values, if present, like this: fg[NORMAL] = "#0051FF" fg[SELECTED] = "#0051FF" fg[ACTIVE] = "#0051FF" Or add the following to the file. style "xfdesktop-icon-view" { XfdesktopIconView::...

Re: How To Scale PulseAudio Volume to 153% ?

Hi johnywhy,
the only part of that i don't understand is > /dev/null. Anybody know what that's for?
"/dev/null" is the proverbial black hole. It's a simple way to discard something. In your case any output from pacmd goes to /dev/null rather than the terminal.

Re: How To Scale PulseAudio Volume to 153% ?

Hi johnywhy,

I'm not 100% sure but I believe you can do it this way. As root, edit the file: /etc/pulse/daemon.conf
Find the line: flat-volumes = yes
Change it to: ; flat-volumes = yes
Save the file and reboot.

Re: Mounting DVD Drive

Hi abtygwyn, I have one final suggestion. In a terminal enter the following command: sudo bash -c 'echo 2000 > /sys/module/block/parameters/events_dfl_poll_msecs' Then see if a DVD will mount properly. This is a temporary solution that lasts until you shutdown/reboot. If this works then for a perman...

Re: Lmde krita version

Hi johnnybevo,

The current version in LMDE2 is 1:2.8.5+dfsg-1 = 2.8.5.
Will I be able to install the next stable release when it is available?
Yes, but since LMDE2 is based on Debian stable there won't be any newer versions until LMDE3. There will only be security updates and bug fixes.

Yes. That is okay. Did you check the settings in your File Manager with regard to mounting CD's/DVD's?
Is libdvdcss2 installed?

Hi abtygwyn, In addition to txba516's suggestions you could also check the settings in your File Manager with regard to mounting CD's/DVD's. Also, in a terminal, enter these commands: cat /sys/module/block/parameters/events_dfl_poll_msecs cat /sys/block/sr0/events_poll_msecs If you get 0 or -1 from ...

Re: Is it possible to install older VLC versions?

Hi tpprynn, You can try. Whether it will install is a good question. It is, after all, 4 years old. Once installed you will need to add it to the "Ignored packages" list in Mint Update which you can find under "Preferences". If you use anything else to get your updates you will need to exclude it th...

Hi DanJ,

Some icons have an option to show a border. You could try checking the options for those icons to see if the option is present and enabled.

Re: XFCE 17.1 Task bar location, date on task bar, files on

Hi mslaguy007, First, is there a way to move the task bar from the bottom of the screen to the top? Are you talking about the whole panel or just that part where Mint Update appears? If you mean the entire panel then Menu -> Settings -> Panel disable "Lock panel". You should then be able to drag the...
