Re: How do you setup Mint?

It all depends on my mood. Usually after install i just update, find a nice theme and wallpaper thats about it. All my tinkering comes way later. Sometimes i ditch vlc and keep gnome-mplayer, sometimes not, sometimes i go for smplayer. Sometimes i remove gimp sometimes not. Its all dependant on mood...

Re: Gnome3 for the experienced (FUN Stuff!!!)

I'd think that you would like my Laptop---T42P/15" 2.0GHZ w/Radeon-FireGL graphics & a 200G harddrive......I've had very good service from it over the last few years. Dual boots Ubuntu 10.10 & XPee right now---will be converting it to Mint very soon. It's just above the min spec to run the Shell--I...

i never said my idea was any good either lol. But yea you can't really fault mark shuttleworth for doing what he is doing. You can look at it simply as trying something different.

Re: A "sneak peak" at mint 11 (sort of) - gnome 3 no shell

I don't understand it, sounds like people complaining just to complain. If its that big of an issue there is always a multitude of other WM's and DE's out there, then (for the adventurous) there is always something like Arch where you get what YOU want and not what's on the iso already.

I can't wait for gnome 3. Right now im thinking of switching my mint 10 main to lmde and may try out gnome 3. Without the shell mainly cause i have older hardware and as far as I know i just wont be able to support gnome shell

Re: Future of Mint: Ubuntu or Debian Based

Personally, when it comes down to it it really doesn't matter to me. I'll support whatever dicision is made as long as its made for the good of the project and community as a whole. I do like the idea of having one debian (testing) and one ubuntu (stable) type of releases. All I really want to know ...

Re: How do you promote Mint?

Here is how I promote Linux as a whole, I use public wifi since I simply can't afford Internet at home. I've always had a philosophy as instead of coercing someone into doing or trying something its better to sort of intrigue them enough to ask questions. So there really isn't a day that someone doe...

Re: Two New Mint Walls

I was stationed in SoCal for 5 years. I was Army but spent a year at Long Beach Naval Station, MCAS El Toro for 8 months once LB NS closed, and then Camp Pendleton for more than 3 years. During that time I lived in Long Beach for a little over a year and then in Oceanside. For that entire 5 years I...

Re: Why do new people give up on Linux?

Any advice on how to get it at anywhere near 21st century running speed would be very much appreciated. But until then, I can't wait to get back to Windows. Try Linux Mint Debian, it uses about half of the resources required by Linux Mint 9. Or test new Linux Mint 10 LXDE. My Debian is using 662MB ...

Re: RE: compare XP to LinuxMint

In my experiences so far the only things that MIGHT give you trouble on 64 bit would be as JasonLG said old proprietary drivers, a few games and possibly newer versions of flash. Other then that you should be good to go, and remember there is always a fix if you want to take the time to find it.

Re: XFCE10

Many people believe that a Full-featured Desktop Environment like Xfce is bigger and clunkier than some of the other lightweight Desktops w/Window Managers ... when in reality this is not the case. Most users only have a distro like Xubuntu for comparison. Fully agree, ubuntu's implementation of kd...

Re: Mark Shuttleworth, the idiot of the century

I don't really think what canonical is doing is a particularly good or bad idea. Its interesting, its different to be sure, something I myself wouldn't mind trying out. The only thing i keep thinking is that perhaps it would make more sense to develop their own DE rather than change gnome to somethi...
