Installing drivers and samba

If I might make a suggestion; after an install, and this may or may not apply to laptops only, don't install so many video drivers. I mean, I would assume you can query the video card and find out the manufacturer, so only install that video driver. SInce I have a laptop I go and remove all non-pert...

Re: Anyone know how to theme the "Mint Main Menu?"

Bring up the Themes from the Settings option and look for the active one, not the Other settings option.
The active one will be located in the /usr/share/themes/themename/cinnamon

The filename will me the themename.css

Obviously it is a CSS type file.

Good luck.

Re: Bug with Gnome 2 MATE fork.

In fact I also found that equinox is also installed in the wrong directory as well.

I really don't know who is in error here. The maintainer of the engine or the Mint Team.

[SOLVED] Bug with Gnome 2 MATE fork.

I did some research on where gtk-engines are installed. In Synaptic I found the Aurora was installed in /usr/lib/gtk-2.0/2.10.0/engines but murrine was installed in /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/gtk-2.0/2.10.0/engines/libmurrine.so So I went to /usr/lib/gtk-2.0/2.10.0/engines in caja as 'root' and copie...

Re: Nadia(14) kills wireless, now what?

I found this link that proports to have a driver for Linux. It would seem that he states the following: I have recently tried the pre-release version of Ubuntu 13.04, and found that it has the correct driver but does not yet include the necessary firmware file (/lib/firmware/rt3290.bin). I was able ...

Re: cant seem to get help

I had a similar problem right after an update. Seems that the update was to my video, Intel. After the update the system would all of a sudden just log me off. At first I thought it was fluke, but no, kept on doing it. Had to downgrade back to previous driver and all is well. But the problem you are...

Re: Screen Lock not working

I am running Nadia 64bit. I just added the Lock Screen Applet to the Panel, clicked on it and it worked. Even when I right-clicked on the applet and chose Lock screen it worked. My computer is a run-of-the-mill Toshiba laptop, nothing special. Perhaps if you could provide more information about your...

Re: Dark panel MATE theme that looks proper in every aspect?

I installed the Shiki themes and it has some dark themes and the panels look pretty good as well. Now the one thing I have done is kinda merged themes together. Mint-Z-Improved with Shiki-Nouveau-Dust copying elements of one to the other and then modified the living crap out of the gtkrc file and Pa...

Re: Mate Desktop Environment - GNOME2 fork

I have the same issue. Doesn't effect anything but sort of, how should I say, weird and might be disconcerting for a new user. It is a bug, but a rather inocuous one though.

Re: Customizing the main MATE menu

The MintMenu is slow to load, sometimes up to 10-14secs, but it does load. As far as customizing the other menus, not sure if you can, I'd say you couldn't.
One other option is to use gnomenu. Can't remember where I got so you could Google.

Re: can't login

When you login as root go to your home directory and rename .config and .gconf and see if that allows you to login.

Re: Help with several bugs/issues

You said that System Monitor showed 50% most of the time. Something is eating the cycles. Check the Processes and change the View to All Processes. Then click on the Column for CPU% and see which process is highest and go from there.
It's a start anyway, might show something.

Re: What if Ubuntu goes away

I have run LMDE and it is a great distro. BUT, and a big but, Printing doesn't work for me. I have a Kodak printer and it works fine but not on LMDE. Ubuntu must be doing something different. Wish I knew what it was and if I did, I would run LMDE exclusively.

What if Ubuntu goes away

I read all the time that there wouldn't be Linux Mint if it weren't for Ubuntu. It kind of irritates me but brings up a valid point, "What would happen to Linux Mint if Ubuntu went away?"
I hope I haven't touched on a 'touchy' subject, just asking a what I feel is a vaild question.

Re: Centering windows

There is another issue as well. The application, specifically Firefox and Thunderbird, will start up but be minimized. I tried 'ticking' the 'unmaximize' but that didn't work. Thunderbird comes up fine, but if you Reply, the window is minimized. Must be something with Cinnamon and the way it handles...

Centering windows

I know this has been asked before but I felt that they were so far down on the list that most people wouldn't see this. Here is what I am doing and it seems to work pretty much all the time. I used Devilspie and Gdevilspie (gui setup for Devilspie). Here is the layout of the devilspie item The ID: a...
