Re: Any program or command to write to multiple burners?

Look into the CLI command cdrdao for cd record disk at once, or http://sourceforge.net/projects/turbojet/ and the accompanying video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BNuCcZ0aLuU I don't have the hardware to duplicate what you are attempting, so I haven't checked out the possibilities, but the turbo...

Re: How to downgrade a single package without removing other

You sound like you see the problem in the last half of your post, but you are ignoring it! You can't downgrade just the single package, you have to downgrade the package and all of the package dependencies! dpkg DOESN'T check all dependencies, that is why you use apt-get, aptitude, Synaptic, or Soft...

Re: External CF-disk gets formatted after plugging in

I know why it formatted your disk after auto-mounting, but I don't know myself how to keep it from auto-mounting. Linux found there was no recognizable format on the CF disk, so it formatted the disk. Linux was not able to read the CF disk . The default behavior is to auto-mount USB/flash drives con...

Re: How can i tell which Tkinter i have? Also upgrading to L

Are you sure you need the Python 3 version of Tkinter? The package you want is either python-tk or python3-tk, and if you enter Tkinter in the search box of Synaptic, the installed version will show on your list . Upgrading to Mint 12 should not lose your settings if: - You upgrade from Update Manag...

Re: live disc problems

When you opened Brasero, did you select Burn an Image as your project type?

After selecting your .iso file and the disk to burn to, did you select Properties and change the burn speed to its lowest setting?

I'm sorry if these seem too simple, but I don't know your level of competence in this task.

Re: Change default GRUB boot option

First, I would like to note that you can only choose the position of the starting choice under GRUB. If, for example, you saw that Windows 7 was the third from the top of the GRUB menu, you can go into /etc/default/grub by entering in terminal the following: gksudo gedit /etc/default/grub after ente...

Re: sudo and root account

The Linux Mint installer does not include the option to change from sudo to requiring a root user account. If you want to write your own installer, you can change that. If you don't want to go that far, you can enable the root user by simply enter in the terminal, not typing in the $ of course: $ su...

Go to Preferences >> Startup Applications >> Gnome Login Sound and enable it if that is your only sound problem. Likely it isn't.

Re: Are repos for LMDE and LM mixed together?

Before you tried installing the GTK package, did you install build-essential for LMDE? apt-get install build-essential as root? This package is normally required for any development and also normally keeps the type library conflicts to a minimum. Yes, LMDE points to some Mint libraries as a part of ...

Re: Lmde Dual boot

Hi Azati! There are some questions: 1. You should consider, if you want to install LMDE onto hard drive, to partition before installing. Although LMDE is a rolling distri, I recommend to create an own home partition (it is no bad idea to have personal data on an extra partition). 2. You want to use...

Re: Acer Aspire One - Card Reader not working

A) buy a USB SD card reader (fairly cheap)
B) make sure you have tried both SD slots. I know it was reported that only one SD slot could be used as a boot slot.

Re: Power management - disc spin down problem.

Depending on how much RAM you have and the size and number of your applications, you may be using disk swap space, which would re-activate your hard disk. It is least likely to occur if all applications are shut down, and your keyboard and mouse are not being used. Normally spin down should only occ...

Re: LMDE-Vista Calendar Dilemma

I have a suggestion, but you may not like it. Make a shared partition between Vista and LMDE which is FAT and install your shared Thunderbird and Lightning profiles on it. That is the recommended manner of sharing data between Windows and Linux, because even though Windows and Linux can read and som...

Re: Unable to use any telnet based program

If you are using a wireless connection, you must have a router, and you should check the firewall settings on the router (you may have to log in to the router with a wired connection to check those settings).

First, you won't 'lose' anything if you re-install or remove VirtualBox, nor will you lose your installation customization on Windows unless you delete or damage files in your Windows.vdi (or whatever you called your Windows virtual machine) or other settings in the ~/.VirtualBox folder. It looks as...

If your video card is not supported by the latest nVidia proprietary driver and the generic nVidia driver doesn't support all of the features and/or speed you wanted to get from the card, you are stuck with Windows until enough information is available from nVidia to support the card. Many periphera...
