Re: source list issue

That listing is not in any way close to a Linux Mint 17.3 /etc/apt/sources.list file. You have no Mint repositories at all, you are loading Google's Chrome repository instead of using Chromium, for example, which you should not be doing until after you get a good installation, if then. Chromium and ...

Re: Why did 17.3 Cinnamon not create the std directories?

@AZgl1500, have you considered using an Android virtual machine using Android-x86http://www.android-x86.org/ to run the Android Evernote client? Or is that too complicated at this point? If so, have you looked at genymotion https://www.genymotion.com/#!/ ?

Re: Question regarding Driver Manager / GPU driver

First, inxi is a script for gathering information about your setup. Second, you did not mention that you have an Intel GPU as well as an nVidia GPU. That affects the answer, and is one of the reasons why I asked you to report the results of the inxi output. For a dual GPU system, here is one configu...

Re: Chromium: Search search engines directly in URL field.

The way I understand the way the code would work, if you use Tab to select your search engine , your search request will first go to a Google server to determine what search engine you require, and only then would your request be passed on to Duckduckgo or whatever search engine you require. There a...

Re: Connecting to AiO printer for scanning

1. Double click the c2esp-27.tar.gz file to open the archive manager. 2. Extract to a scratch folder, for example, ~/Downloads/c2exp-27 3. From http://community.linuxmint.com/tutorial/view/1525 The following commands are executed from a terminal window: Note: ~/Downloads/c2exp-27 is the folder you c...

Or just log in as root, wth or without a password. First, two observations: If you don't get used to a limited account, you will never know how a limited account will act during the actions you are performing, and If you go on the Internet, there are ways to have your computer hacked by simply readi...

Re: Connecting to AiO printer for scanning

Do you have the drivers for printer and scanner from the Sourceforge page? http://sourceforge.net/projects/cupsdriverkodak/

There is also a thread here for using Linux Mint Debian Edition with that printer and scanner: http://linuxforums.org.uk/index.php?topic=11636.0

Re: Brother DCP7030 Printer

I am presently printing with a Brother DCP-7060D laser printer, maybe I can give you some pointers. First, I was able to get the printer working for single-sided print by installing from CUPS on a standard Linux Mint 17.0 install. I did need the Brother driver to print double-sided and to use the sc...

Re: Crate links to folders automatically

Instead of doing that, have you thought of simply linking the folder contents to the destination? Or would not that work? You can do what you specify from the command line, but not from GUI (at least I am unfamiliar with a GUI for links), and if you do not have a REGEX (regular wildcard expression) ...

Re: Question regarding Driver Manager / GPU driver

The table of contents block (tocblock) I believe referred to a corruption in your file directory table, so the driver installation must have caused a disk problem or caused a HDD problem to surface. Nouveau driver does not at this time support hardware graphics acceleration. Can you open a terminal ...

Also, the version available for Linux from Adobe or the repository files from Adobe will still cause some websites to complain because Adobe stopped adding features to Flash for Linux distributions at version 11. AFAIK, the only thing to do for those sites is to either install Google Chrome for Linu...

@mwaterbu: Say again your purpose in installing DeVeDe in place of Brasero? Are you simply more familiar with devede from another environment? Or is there another reason? Brasero can certainly match functionality.

Re: mint to mint?

It might be a file permission problem as well. Windows pretty much ignores file and folder permissions, recognizing only two types of users, administrator-equivalent and restricted, 'normal' users, with only the normal users being blocked from doing and accessing any and every thing once they are lo...

Re: what setting is defining default user media folders?

If you moved or deleted the ~/Pictures folder from the command line, I don't think GIMP and the others would follow that move, however, which would mess up your nice analogy. What GIMP or the other applications probably WOULD do is recreate the ~/Pictures folder.

Re: Why did 17.3 Cinnamon not create the std directories?

@Radish, tmpfs is the temporary file system, not a partition. The second column from the left simply shows where the column to the far right has been mounted. If mounted to tempfs, then the mount point goes away when the machine is shut down. It is only a separate partition if the left column looks ...

Re: Printer Driver for Fuji Xerox DocuPrint P115W Help Pleas

According to my google-fu & openprinting.org, there is not yet a printer driver written/identified to work with this printer under Linux. This matches the information on the Fuji Xerox printer page. Windows 10, check. Mac OS X 10.10, check. But no driver for Linux.

Many of those 'gadgets and gizmos' will be automatically connected and just work, but there are still a lot of 'gizmos' which won't work. I just use Ctrl-Alt-F3 instead of Ctrl-Alt-F1 as an alternate console, no reason to prefer that over another.
