How did the 32 bit and Mandriva downloads get into the picture?

Thanks.

Re: Cleaning a hard driveh

Well I have been muddling along for a couple hours and I think I cleaned and formated the 80gb drive. I will try a backup and let everyone know if the backup is successful. Not sure what I finally did to solve this.
I will post a Solved when the backup is successful.

Re: Cleaning a hard drive

No, the drive is a 80 GB, Western Digital WD800. I had clicked on 77 GB Filesystem which is between Network and Trash in the File Manager for the photo.

Re: Cleaning a hard drive

Hello Aging Technogeek

OK to a point. I cannot use “Format to”. It is grayed out. The picture is where i am at right now. There is an unallocated 7.94GB section left.

Cleaning a hard drive SOLVED

I have a USB external hard drive that has a bad sector and I want to use a spare drive that has a linux system on it. I want to clean off the drive but mint will not let me. I see I do not have privileges. It seems to be under Root. Mint is protecting the linux system that is there now. I tried to w...

Laptop 32 bit 64 bit

My recently converted laptop is a 64 bit PC but right now I am using 32 bit Mint 7 and Mint 10 for comparison studies. Is there any advantage to using 64 bit? If Chrome browser works better than FF, I will install just Mint 10, 64 bit.
The laptop had Vista on it with 64 bit as I recall.

Thanks.

Re: Should I ignore Googles virus warnings?

If, as richnbernie suggests, you are concerned with the pop-up ads that say you have a virus and you must buy a certain anti-virus software to get rid of it, don't let them alarm you. Just do not open any links to the sites mentioned. Most of the sites probably would not be able to install anything...

Downloadd music conversion

With windows, I have been downloading and converting music to mp3 for my music player and wav for my car CD player. I use Vista and Real Player to download and convert flv files to what I want. It works very well and is not difficult to do.
What can I use in Mint that is comparable? Thanks.

Re: Linux Mint 10 reviews & thoughts

Definitely a little slower than 7. Firefox is slower at times. Right now I prefer 7. hope to find a browser that runs faster than the ff in 10. Those who only use 10 may not notice this. I use both in the same pc to compare as I just started using Mint a couple or so months ago. I try to keep it sim...

Re: Should I ignore Googles virus warnings?

This sounds like you are using Google for searching. I have seen this before when I use Google for searching. This happened with a on line company I buy from so I let them know. If I continued to ignore the warning, I was led to a site with RU in the URL. You all know where that is. The company in q...

Laptop with Mint 10

I have an ancient Acer laptop I bought new about a year and a half ago that now has 10 on it. All I had to do is change to single click, get rid of the ugly theme and change the resolution. Click on the wireless selection option and was on the Internet in about 5 minutes after finishing the install....

Upgrade to Mint 10

I finally went from Mint 7 to Mint 10. Since I saw an option to dual boot I chose that option. I did notice Fire fox is slower with 10 than with 7. I downloaded the same bookmarks from 7 to a flash drive and put them into 10. Some links can take a s much as forty seconds to complete when I click on ...

Re: Going from MInt 7 to MInt 10

Ok, I did a fresh install of Mint 10 as I could not see a way to do an upgrade from Mint 7. Might be too big a jump for a new user. Did a bunch of updates that were waiting. It was not intuitively obvious on getting the USB webcam to work but groped around the forums and found Cheese mentioned. It a...

Re: Going from MInt 7 to MInt 10

Thanks, I am going to do a fresh install. All my files are on a external drive. I did a Google search for mint upgrade and found a couple tutorials but far to many steps , that have some potential Gotcha's, for a new Linux user. Nice stuff but still kind of complex for someone coming in from windows...

Going from MInt 7 to MInt 10

I have been running Mint 7 for a few weeks and generally happy with it. I would like to go up to Mint 10. I have been running it on live CD. I use Gnome and comfortable with it. The 32 bit version. Is there a procedure to do what is called an upgrade? I suppose I could do what I think is a fresh ins...

Re: New Mint user

With Mint 7 you could try the application ' vlc '. Use the Softwware Manager , in search type ' vlc ' . Or it is easy in command line - - Terminal sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install vlc Thanks.
