Re: Basic question: disabling exim4

I am running LMDE XFCE, and have noticed that the machine is running the exim4 mail server. I don't use the machine as anything other than a desktop, and before I disable it I want to ask if there is any downside to doing this. MikeC I do not have exim4 installed on my LMDE XFCE/MATE/LXDE machine.

Re: Installed MATE w/XFCE, Power Manager Issues

In an update of the blanking monitor issue, I am using XFCE without any blanking after 10 minutes or even longer. If I go to MATE, it is like it has a mind of its' own. It is not holding onto settings I make and it blanks after 10 minutes. This matter needs to be addressed, in order for it to work p...

Re: Installed MATE w/XFCE, Power Manager Issues

check mateconf-editor apps -> mate-power-manager might find something odd there I ended up re-installing xscreensaver and mate-screensaver. In MATE, made sure of all my settings, but still blanked. Uninstalled mate-screensaver. Reboot to XFCE, checked my settings in Xscreensaver, saved and then che...

Installed MATE w/XFCE, Power Manager Issues

Like the subject states, I had XFCE installed and working fine prior to installing MATE from the repos. Now I can't go more than 10 minutes watching a video without the screen blanking out, like a screen saver is active. I have set all power options to for monitor to NEVER, disabled and uninstalled ...

Re: Installing Freenx?

Add in the repo works. If i install free nx is wants to remove sysvinit - the description of sysvinit is: "This package contains programs required for booting a Debian system and doing basic process management." I'm guessing its not safe to do this? I'm going to say no. But someone who is a bit wis...

Have you tried to hard-code your IP address for the wireless card?

And did you re-install the Windows drivers with the ndiswrapper?

Re: Virtualbox doesn't like kernel 3.2

Anyone else see this problem? Upgraded from 3.0 to 3.2 a few days ago, I had virtualbox 4.1.0 installed. With the new kernel, I got a virtualbox-dkms error. I uninstalled and reinstalled virtualbox-dkms. no change. So i upgraded Virtualbox wih Oracle's repository for Debian Squeeze to 4.1.8. It act...

Re: Installing Amazon MP3 Downloader in LMDE amd64

You actually don't have to install anything. If I open the amz-file with Banshee it automatically downloads the whole album. That's if you have Banshee installed. You need to remember that there are folks out there that have their music media player preference and may not like or want Banshee on th...

Re: looking for a "stubborn" cd/dvd/bluray reader...

Did you ever stop to think that the drive itself is failing?
Yes, CD/DVD/Blu-ray drives do fail, throwing the errors you are posting.
Try to get another drive and then try to pull the info of the disks and see if you still get the errors.

Re: Installing Amazon MP3 Downloader in LMDE amd64

You could also use pymazon. Works well and I've had no issues with in downloading mp3's from Amazon. Thanks for the recommendation of pymazon . Do you know if it will snag entire albums from Amazon's Cloud Player? I can get individual songs from the player but albums are going to be a royal pain do...

Re: MATE and Mint 12

It's a matter of simply adding "xfce4-power-manager" in Startup Applications (Add, give it a name and put the terminal command in the command field) I can't get this to work. The xfce4 power manager is installed and starts up using the command line but I cannot get it to auto-start. It is in the St...

Re: MATE and Mint 12

I am not using Linux Mint per se, but I am using Debian Testing.
Found the repos for Debian Sid, and once I got it in my soureces.list, I installed mATE.
Looks very nice, and it is currently running on my desktop.

Good work to Clem and the developer of MATE.

I'm using the Gnome Mint Menu and Volume control with the plugins. I haven't notice when this happens but I believe its when...

Re: XFCE weather applet

For those who are awaiting a resolution to the weather-plugin in XFCE, it looks like it has been fixed.
I took a peek at sid and found an updated xfce-weather-plugin. I downloaded it, and then loaded onto my panel, gave it the required zip coed and shazaam, it works, again.

Re: XFCE weather applet

Did it stop working for anyone else? A few days ago I started getting No Data and it hasn't resolved itself. This has something to do with Weather.com now charging lots of money for their weather feed that used to be free for almost ten years. And Linux users are not alone. Windows 7 weather app ha...

Ok. If I understood correctly you mean that the packages are shown to package manager for installation but are not already installed? Thanks The kernel is installed, but you have to go to synaptic and search for the Linux headers for 3.0. When you input the term "linux-headers" hit search and it wi...
