Re: UPDATES NOT?

Now, when I tick the 'Updates' box, 76 files are downloaded. But, no files shown for Select - Install. Does this mean the files are already there? Done job? I am not sure what you are referring to, but to check if everything is ok, open a terminal window and run these commands: sudo apt-get update ...

Just kidding.
By chance, I had seen this post prior to seeing yours.

By the way, the above phrase actually works (second hit on Google).

Re: How to get Free42 to run?

1- Right-click "Free42Linux.tgz" and select "Extract Here"
2- Right-click the extracted folder, "Free42Linux", and select "Open in Terminal"
3- Run these:
cd gtk
sudo cp free42dec /usr/local/bin/
4- Close the terminal and then reopen it again. Now try again:

Re: accessing serial port

Just a wild guess. Create /etc/udev/rules.d/10-user.rules and add this rule to it:
KERNEL=="ttyUSB0", GROUP="tty", MODE="0600"

Re: UPDATES NOT?

Yes, you should try to fix this. Open a terminal window (Menu > Terminal) and run these commands:
sudo apt-get clean
cd /var/lib/apt
sudo rm -rf lists
sudo mkdir -p lists/partial
sudo apt-get clean
sudo apt-get update

Thanks. :) Your second post shows that you have added these lines to /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf: #added by me to select default card options cx88_alsa index=0 My suggestion is to replace the above lines with the following lines, save the file and reboot. #added by me to select default card optio...

Re: How to fix Linux Mint 12 KDE issues

Mads, Have you had any issues with power management? The screen settings seem to work fine, but i can't get suspend/hibernate to work. Setup is stock Mint 12 KDE 64-bit, on an Intel 945 board with a 3 GHZ chip and 2 GB of ram. Power management worked normally when Gnome 3 was running on this box. I...

Re: Selecting Default sound card in Alsa after Pulse removal

Dear Niks, two questions:
1- I have read your opening post several times, but still don't quite understand what you are trying to achieve.
Could you please write in simple words, for stupid people like me, what is the problem?
2- What is the output of 'cat /proc/asound/modules'?

Re: linux mint 12 LXDE audio codecs?

Hi. I am not sure if this works for LXDE, but it is safe to try.
Open a terminal window (Menu > Terminal) and type the following command followed by ENTER:
mintwelcome
Now, do you see a pop-up window with the option "Upgrade to the DVD edition" or "Install Multimedia Codecs"?

I am running KDE now, but if I recall right, you should see the "Remove from Panel" option when you right-click the appropriate icon in the Mint Menu.

And I was wondering, if I want to install KDE 4.8, do I have to do it through the backports? Can I instead just use the kubuntu-ppa/ppa as listed there even though I'm running Linux Mint KDE, or no?
See this.

Re: Can't remove linux-image-2.6.39-2-486

Hi. It seems that the error is related to extlinux. It is not installed in main edition, but I don't know about xfce.
Try one of these.
sudo apt-get install --reinstall extlinux
sudo apt-get purge extlinux (if you are sure you don't need it)
