I guess I am bit dense today - search where?

Re: Problem booting 19.1 beta [SOLVED - workaround found]

Pierre and Petermint caused me to think a bit. Ouch, kind of hard on an old guy :D ! The mint versions (17.x, 18.x, 19.0) that boot properly in the USB 3.0 port on my out-of-date desktop computers are on PNY 128gb USB 3.0 units. The Mint 19.1 that does not boot consistently on the USB 3.0 port on th...

Re: Problem booting 19.1 beta [Solution Found]

I have been trying to boot the Mint 19.1 Beta USB Stick with the USB 3.0 ports on my 10-12 year old computers, with inconsistent but poor results. I have determined that the USB Sticks WILL boot consistently on USB 2.0 ports on these computers. This is an adequate work around. Still, why do Mint 17...

Re: Problem booting 19.1 beta - Added Info

When trying to boot 19.1 from a USB stick, I typically get either a Boot Error or the following message: " ISOLINUX 6.03 1017017 EHDD Copyright (C) 1994-2014 H Peter Anvin Et al" The computer is completely locked up at that point and has to be rebooted. I have been able to get 19.1 to boot...

Re: Problem booting 19.1 beta

The computers in question are set to boot from USB and do indeed readily boot from USB sticks that have Mint 19, Mint 18.3, and all earlier versions. They just won't consistently boot Mint 19.1 USB sticks. All the USB sticks were created in Mint 18.x using the USB IMAGE WRITER. Mint 19.1 beta (Mate)...

Problem booting 19.1 beta [SOLVED ]

I have created 19.1 cimmaron and mate beta flash drives but I am having trouble getting them to boot on my two primary desktop machines. I also created a 19.1 beta mate DVD and it boots just fine. Versions of Mint up through Mint 19 work just fine but the 19.1 flash drives will not boot consistently...

Some more information

I am actually getting somewhere! I can connect the ip8720 by USB to two different computers, both using Mint 18.3. I have been playing the "why can't I print 11 x 17" game on both of them and just came to the realization that as of a few days ago I was using different printer drivers on th...

Re: Print 11 x 17 inches on Canon ip8720

Actually in addition to the Canon that I bought only for printing 11 x 17 and 11 x 14, I have an HP Laserjet 1320 (monochrome, getting a bit old), an HP Color Laserjet Pro 451, an HP Officejet Pro 8216, and a quite old but still working HP Photosmart 7960. Unfortunately, HP no longer makes ink cartr...

By the way..

The paper dimensions in the PPD files seems to be 72 units per inch. I seem to remember that this is a size in Picas. I will try adding or modifying one of the entries in the PPD file to 792 by 1224 for 11 x 17 inches.

TurboPrint

TurboPrint looks interesting but I am not sure that it is worth $34 to me. Canon Support has gotten back to me with the message that they only support Windows and Mac, even though the printer is advertised as working with Linux. Are all Canon products that poorly supported on Linux? Another lesson l...

Re: Print 11 x 17 inches on Canon ip8720

I checked my .ppd files and they look much like yours. In mine and yours, the sizes given seem to be some sort of points, not mm. Roughly 72 points per inch of dimension. My .ppd files show a Ledger size, which is about 9.5 by 11 inches. However ledger size does not show up in the list of paper size...

Print 11 x 17 inches on Canon ip8720 (Mostly Solved)

Does anyone know how to print 11 x 17 pages on a Canon ip8720 using Linuxmint Mate 18.3? I downloaded what should be the latest drivers. No 11 x 17 shows up on the list of sizes. In Windows, 11 x 17 shows up near the top of the list. I sent a query on this to Canon support but I haven't heard anythi...

DuckDuckGo doesn't work..[Solved itself]

Today, August 15, DuckDuckGo doesn't work for me in Mint 17.3 or Mint 18.2 (different machines). I tried it in both Google Chrome and in FireFox.
It works fine in Windows 7 in Google Chrome.
Anyone else having a problem?

No HDMI Audio (Solved, sort of)

Pavucontrol did not solve the problem. I set the audio output from the computer to analog and connected it to the analog audio input connections for the HDMI port I am using. This works fine and solves my immediate problem but might not provide a general solution. Not all HDMI ports on TVs have the ...

Possible solution?

The HDMI port I am using on the TV is also associated with a pair of RCA jacks for sound input. According to the manual for the TV (surprise, I still have the manual!) says I can set that port to use either HDMI sound or analog sound. So I am going to try connecting the analog audio out of the compu...
