I found there are 3 choices that deal with the desktop in MintConfig; - XFCE 4 Desktop settings - XFCE 4 MintDesktop (which is the one that enables Compiz) - XFCE 4 Advanced Desktop effects So ... Xfce4-MintConfig from the main menu, then select the Des...

Re: Linux just aint ready

The family was on a linux high for a little while but they are all back on XP mainly because of gaming. I went back to XP because of the printer, fax and file server I built and on my kitchen pc the new Intel mobo with the Atom cpu has issues with linux. Granted, I have not tried to run Mint on it b...

Re: How do I print to a Print server

The printing issues have really got my goat ... I have setup a fax, printer and file server using XP Pro last month and all is good. My problem was that some printers I have don't have linux support. Now all 8 systems are able to print to all printers all the time, plus I can receive faxes and view ...

Re: Linux Mint 5 Elyssa officially released!

Yesterday I was in line at Frys' buying a PS for my daughters pc and I noticed the man next to me had a "Linux for Dummies" book. He must have been in his 80''s  (never to old to learn). Re: Microsoft is absolutely fantastic!!!...

A kitchen PC? For looking up online recipes? That is actually the running joke in our family about computers. Years ago you kept hearing about computerizing recipes  The 1st kitchen PC I built was in 2005 ... link here. http://www.abxzone.com/abx_reviews/yama1/article_p1.html I use the kit...

Re: Linux just aint ready

There needs to be better linux support from hardware manufacturers.
To many issues with printers that don't work for example.

Why would the average user want to deal with that crap.

Re: Brother Printer Drivers

Regarding the how easy it is; it wasn't too easy to find the drivers, in my opinion, off the brother site. Not to mention you have to download 2 different deb packages, the wrapper and the actual printer driver. For a new user I doubt this would be practical. Sure I could do it, but I'd like to be ...

Re: Linux just aint ready

Comparing Windows and Linux by the same yard stick is a non-starter. It is like comparing cars and airplanes. They are both modes of transportation, but beyond that they have little in common. If you want to travel from London to New York, a car just won't do the trick. If you want to go to the gro...
