Re: I have a question and a hypothesis

Okay, thanks. Well, the output looked fine in the console. To capture it, I used an old MS-DOS redirect trick, as: "inxi -Fxzd > myfile.txt". Use inxi -Fsxd -c0 | nc termbin.com 9999 -c0 strips out the ASCII color formatting [/b]. Emphasis mine and not directed solely at you. :) nc termbin.com 9999...

Re: External Monitor only shows background/desktop image

Welcome to the Mint Forums.

We will (eventually?) need this output from terminal.

Code: Select all

inxi -Fsz -c0 | pastebin
and paste the link back here.

Thanks!

Re: What is the plural of OS?

I like how both of Flemur's links say you should use OSs as the plural of OS, that both OS's and OSes are wrong. Somebody didn't read their links :) read part of one. "But do not use apostrophes for plurals of abbreviations without periods, or for plurals formed from figures: TVs, PCs, DVDs; 1990s,...

Re: Firefox 53.0.3 keeps crashing after update

53.0.3+linuxmint1+rosa bombs here also, and it is recent and never any "about"crashes". Just an "oops" type box and 2 choices. If you've never run apt-get clean check /var/cache/apt/archives/ for a previous version.deb or a gander at http://sourceforge.net/projects/ubuntuzilla/files/mozilla/apt/pool...

Re: I need to disable all possible wake-from-standby events (except the power button).

Like I said I sleep in the same room as my PC. I like to hibernate it because I want to find all my stuff as I left it the day before. I use a power strip with multiple devices attached, and I usually turn it off to save power and not be bothered by leds and possible random reawakenings of my PC. A...

Re: (SOLVED) Re: "There are no IP addresses to convert in /home/user/.kde/share/apps/ktorrent/level1.txt"

Well given this bug has been around for years I've decided to uninstall Ktorrent and go with Deluge, that one's working fine. Now your using your noodle! Linux if nothing else has " options ". torrent is a torrent is a torrent, I guess. I don't do those either. Could have left ktorrent also and jus...

Well I googled around for a solution, never saw what you linked just there, I answered questions when asked. Not sure what more effort a newb can put in if he's ignorant of much of the process. Yeah, it can be overwhelming. I have mad google.fu Have you identified the cause, or just tossing out the...

Re: I need to disable all possible wake-from-standby events (except the power button).

Do you really mean hibernating? I have never seen my Linux machine waking up from hibernation by touching any key (except the power button of course) or the mouse. In case of suspend: yes. So are you really sure. (Having to say, that i know Windows versions above XP only from reading about it.) You...

Re: Does strong password help against remote attacker?

Does a strong password on your user account help against a remote attacker? If so, how? Yes, and No. It depends on your exposure and your adherence to strict cautionary practices. Practice Safe Hex, avoid dodgy sites. I assume the worst. Keyword here is "user". Scan the nut behind the keyboard. wrt...
