Re: Dualboot LM13 & Vista after reinstalling Vista.

Also, is there any files i should backup before reinstalling the grub? Theoretically: no; however, just as a precaution, I always back-up all my data when repartioning and/or changing the MBR. For reinstalling Grub on sda; How to Restore the Grub Menu after a Re-Ghosting: 1. Boot from a Live CD, li...

Re: Dualboot LM13 & Vista after reinstalling Vista.

Grub should be installed on either sda or sdb (NO partitionnumber!) Choice between sda or sdb depends on your BIOS-settings only: the drive you choose to start up at boot-up should contain Grub. So reinstall Grub and your troubles are over.
BTW: In MHO you were lucky not to destroy the HP data!

See

Code: Select all

man ls
[/b]
Try

Code: Select all

ls -laS /path/to/directory
which is much shorter.

with an undercase 'l' as in LIMA.

Re: Would like new Canon iP4700 driver installation info

Did you configure them in the correct order? I.e. At first install the ...common.deb and then after it is installed without any error-report install the ...-i4700.deb? The question is asked because your terminal shows this message: cnijfilter-iP4700...depend on cnijfilter-common...however ...-common...

Re: Would like new Canon iP4700 driver installation info

Oké, so the code becomes:

Code: Select all

sudo dpkg -i --force-architecture cnijfilter-common_3.20-1_i386.deb
sudo dpkg -i --force-architecture cnijfilter-ip4700series_3.20-1_i386.deb

Re: Would like new Canon iP4700 driver installation info

Here you are, I guess:
(Please check for the correct versionnumber of your packages. In the following code the versionnumbers are: 3.00-1_i386)

Code: Select all

sudo dpkg -i --force-architecture cnijfilter-common_3.00-1_i386.deb
sudo dpkg -i --force-architecture cnijfilter-ip4700series_3.00-1_i386.deb

Re: Would like new Canon iP4700 driver installation info

@ Android_Lee: does not apply. Canon has Linuxdrivers for a lot of its own printers. My MP640 & ip4700 are amongst those that are drivers provided for.
@HappyLinux: here is another PPA:http://ubuntuportal.com/2011/12/how-to- ... buntu.html

Re: Scanning - 'Simple Scan' Command Needed

I am fully aware of the riscs of untrusted PPA's. And more: it's about printerinstaller, I have no Brother-all-in-one, so I hope it will help you install the scanner too:https://launchpad.net/~demonipuch/+arch ... -installer
Be aware of the riscs & Succes again.

Remember to search for the 32bit packages e.g. on this page: http://www.driverlook.com/canon-pixma-i ... linux-mac/ or on a Canon-site.

Thanks for the feedback.
Sorry it was no solution to your problem(s).
BTW: have you tried to start up GIMP and then "making" & "scanning in" a new file? (Don't know the English names of the commands, hope I'm clear enough)

3 Years was the DE-cycle. 5 years is the servercycle and 5 years is the intention as from Ubuntu12.04 (PP). All for the LTS-version, of course.
So.. neither dreaming nor hallucinating.

Re: where is windows located in file system?

Windows, all its programs and the .exe-programs you bought/downladed and installed, are on C:\ - disk in their appropiate folders. (unles you directed them to D:\ immidiately of course) You Wubi-Mint is also in a folder on C:\. This folder is directly approachable via Grub. If you want to back-up Mi...

Re: Mint12 Overrides boot selection and starts by default

Another possibility:
If your motherboard-battery is down (or very low) whatever you try to write to the BIOS will get lost & (more important in this case) the comp will always boot-up with sda (which is your MINT)

Re: How Do I re-boot ?

In the terminal: sudo reboot reboots LMDE only (no motherboardbrand, no GRUB)
sudo reboot -f reboots the whole computer i.e. brings you back to the start-up sequence of the comp.

Re: I deleted MyDocuments folder by accident - any advice!

Do not, repeat not, write to the HDD at all!!
Testdisk is a very good advise, but if you have to download it and burn it, or any other recovery-program, do it on another HDD ( this often means another machine/computer)
