Re: Release Date for Linux Mint 11 KDE

Maybe the mod's could ask one of the developers about this. What is happening with the KDE version, it was meant to be in development when LMDE was finalised, which was some time ago now (in fact ages)? It would not surprise me if it's now being held back by Mint 12 Gnome, or any other excuse that c...

Re: Release Date for Linux Mint 11 KDE

Replaced PCLinuxOS on my spare machine with Kubuntu 11.10 and I must say I am well impressed.

As others have already said, I think this is the best KDE distro to date (and by some margin).

Re: Release Date for Linux Mint 11 KDE

What is the prognosis of the development of the next version of KDE that was supposedly to be completed just after xfce came out and the new rolling release of lmde. It seems as though that was just put on the back burner and forgot about.....nothing more has been said as to it's progress or potent...

Re: Release Date for Linux Mint 11 KDE

I've just installed PCLinuxOS on an old Dell laptop and I must say it is very nice. Used it some time ago but this is the first time I have looked at the latest version. The laptop spec is poor but KDE on PCLinux runs very quickly. Still waiting for openSUSE 12 and LMDE KDE (hopefully) before commit...

Re: Release Date for Linux Mint 11 KDE

I mentioned earlier in this thread (or maybe the other one about Mint KDE development) that I had been trying different distros while waiting for KDE LMDE. These included Kubuntu Oneiric Beta2, Chakra, Sabayon, Zeven OS Neptune, and LMDE 201109 with KDE-standard added and all Gnome stuff removed, a...

Re: Release Date for Linux Mint 11 KDE

I've been using KDE for a while now and had no issues at all.

Whether there is an issue of KDE on openSUSE remains to be seen. I'll give it a go in VB and see for myself.

Re: Release Date for Linux Mint 11 KDE

If you look at the "pie chart" of mint users on the "community page" you will see that those using KDE on mint, as you pointed out, are a very very small percentage of the total Mint users...In fact, even less then use LMDE (which is about 10%) the vast majority run main edition...

Without hesitation she asked if Mint would work on her netbook (that's what I'm running It is fairly obvious to most that kids can learn if they are given the opportunity, and they don't require much hand holding to progress --whether their OS is Linux, Apple, Microsoft or some niche brand such as ...

Re: Young Linux Mint convert

It's one of the fundamental flaws of UK education in that kids are not taught IT but taught Microsoft. It's crystal clear why MS gives away SW too, buy in for life. This situation shouldn't be allowed. My son is probably sick of logging onto our PC and there being a different OS. Never phases him th...

Re: Problems with dual booting. Help!!!!! Please

I think the original instruction was meant to ask you to use a linux mint live cd.

Boot from the mint cd then enter the commands as instructed from there.

Re: UEFI secure booting and the future

Another speculation I've heard is that Win8 will refuse to boot in a computer with secure booting disabled, making it difficult to dual-boot Win8 with Linux once you've disabled it. I'm not sure what to make of this speculation, because it would also mean that none of the computers that currently r...

Re: Could we PLEASE get a true idea of release for UP3?

I agree, up until now I have managed to refrain form chiming in on this topic (at large). The whole idea of the update packs (as far as I am aware) was to prevent breakages and thus make a rolling base more appealing to the average user. Personally I don't mind to odd issue and manage to Google my w...
