Re: Why do new people give up on Linux?

Granted there are still things that need sorting out, but lets give the Mint devs the credit they're due- it's a free OS after all. I don't like it when people say this because it feeds the idea that free (as in free beer) is in some way inferior to paid software purely because it is free. I expect...

Re: Installing Mint 10 to software raid 0 or raid 5

I'm quite interested also.

I believe mdadm is a software based raid solution. If one was to use HW raid (as supported on some MoBo's, well most newish ones) would the OS be "blind" to the fact that there was a raid config installed?

Re: How can I remove my linux Mint password?

I think people (including myself) are just agitated at your steadfast refusal to listen to any advice given. It seems that you've come here for help and then blindly ignore any given. As people have said, if you really like windows then fine, go back to that OS. Nearly all here prefer Linux ( Mint e...

Re: How can I remove my linux Mint password?

Without wanting to sound rude the only tip I need is to NOT follow any advice you offer :) Maybe, the bot's advice might be interesting but for Win users, maybe the bot is good (although I do doubt about that :-\) in Window$ stuff but the bot doesn't know anything about Linux so therefore it's a va...

Re: How can I remove my linux Mint password?

I got sucked into this vortex by trying to help on another thread; http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=58&t=61794&start=60 For someone with such limited PC knowledge (well, misguided) she surely is opinionated :( And she's done a video review of Mint 9 Gnome  http://www.myspace...

Re: Unofficial Post Your Linux Mint Desktop Thread

Very nice job on the desktop Fandangio. :D +1 Very nice! :) Thank you both. I've seen some of the excellent desktops on here and wanted something similar. I am learning Gimp so that I can start creating my own (rather than just tweaking others). Made a few icons too for app's that were not to my ta...

Re: Noob: Coming from Ubuntu to Mint. Is there a netbook ver

With 512MB RAM I'd go for a lighter version as if it is just web browsing you need there's no need for a more featured (and slower) OS. Pick a light one and it will run really well and should give you a better overall experience. That said I've not installed Mint with the XFCE or Flubox so I'm not s...

Re: Noob: Coming from Ubuntu to Mint. Is there a netbook ver

What's the spec of the netbook?

Flubox and XFCE are "lighter versions" but a decent netbook should be able to run a fuller version.

BTW Mint is relatively easier than Ubuntu when it comes to pre-configuration so you should enjoy it :)

Re: Noob: Coming from Ubuntu to Mint. Is there a netbook ver

Ubuntu's only a PITA if you expect everything to be the same as in Windows.

If you're willing to spend a little time to get to know a new OS it is well worth the (minimal, as it really isn't too difficult) effort.
And you can dual boot your system with Mint being the default.

Re: Video Tearing

I have a similar card and used the fix posted here;

http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2010/01/how- ... ia-ubuntu/

Strangely this fix did not work when I was using Ubuntu 10.04 but worked perfectly in Mint 10 Gnome!
