Re: Standing at the crosssroads

A well thought out and presented argument as always. I have to agree with your view that there are too many Mint Editions available which must be a huge drain on resource. There is no reason why a user cannot install the DE of their choice providing there is a decent stable base on which to do so. I...

Re: The passing of one of our own

Such awful news.

As many have already said here Robin was a huge asset to the community, his family and the world as a whole.
Always kind, compassionate, helpful and definitely wise beyond his years.

A very sad loss to us all.

Rest in peace Robin.

Re: Release Date for Linux Mint 11 KDE

Thanks for the response Clem, though I do worry about a KDE when it comes bottom of the chain. I think gogogadget is right, maybe the team should focus on making one awesome edition instead of spreading the available resource too thin. I'd prefer to see Mint remain a success, even if that means KDE ...

Re: Release Date for Linux Mint 11 KDE

Still, the simple reality is that the GNOME version has always been the top priority, and it still is. Okay, so things didn't go according to plan and Mint 11 KDE got put on the back burner. That's how things go sometimes. Sorry, but if folks can't accept all that, then it seems to me that a "...

Re: Release Date for Linux Mint 11 KDE

This isn't about whining. It is about being misinformed about a version of Mint. Now that I have the facts I can make an informed decision, something I was unable to do until yesterday. It's also about integrity, Mint KDE was announced to have been the next thing on the agenda several times but has ...

Re: Release Date for Linux Mint 11 KDE

I don't get the whole stringing people along thing, who does that benefit? Is Mint striving to be an example of how not to manage a "community" based distro? First the CE gets dropped, allegedly striving for more parity. But unable to make a decent KDE spin from Ubuntu base. Then abandonm...

Re: Release Date for Linux Mint 11 KDE

I think you are probably right Craig. Sadly it seems that the Mint team cannot be taken at their word, so yes moving to another distro does look like a good move. Very, very poor practice IMHO. If plans have changed it would be decent for the team to let us know. Why are you doom mongering? The KDE...

Re: Release Date for Linux Mint 11 KDE

That's good advice and something I tried (thanks to tdockery). Didn't quite fit for me though.

I think I may have a look at openSUSE12 and Julep.
It will be interesting to see how distros that have KDE as their main DE compare.

Re: Bluray Edition?

I think the Op's original point was regarding the amout of preinstalled (and even configured) SW that could be included.
Though I may be wrong (and usually am)!

Re: Release Date for Linux Mint 11 KDE

Thanks ZeroZero, personally I am just glad for some useful info. I can now make an informed decision on whether to swap to another distro or wait till December. For me though I've seen KDE bumped several times for seemingly any reason by the Mint team (firstly I think for LMDE, then the unity issues...

How long should it take for Boo to put everything together so that an iso can be made available?
Why don't you ask him!

I'll await the response from tdockery's kind request for information before posting on this thread again.

While I don't know everything that is involved in creating a specific release or flavor of a distro, It would be nice to just answer a question, and leave " it'll be ready when it is ready " smart alec comments out of it. Please give real dates, That's the point, there's no info. Last upd...

Welcome.

I must say I'm jealous of you and rich_roast both. I'm originally from Southampton and spent many years in Blandford, and a few in Bulford.
Rather sadly I now live up north (sorry northerners on here ). It's just not the same as being in the south...

Re: Release Date for Linux Mint 11 KDE

Rolling distro is only good for developers who really push packages to the edge, encountering lots of bugs or performance issues which the normal users barely see. It is not even practical for normal software developers... This statement is fud (well worse actually, it is complete BS) without quali...

Re: Release Date for Linux Mint 11 KDE

I have LMDE XFCE in a VM and it's not caused me too many issues to date (well none that I could not rectify or work round). There are other options for me which I fully understand but Mint has been kind to me and I'm not overly keen to move elsewhere. That said I have installed Kubuntu on a "sp...
