Re: No Internet in Virtual Box

I don't see a [solved] on this topic so I'm assuming this is still open. After battling with this all day and now on second day with trying to get vista to run on virtual box in LM14, I found a youtube which was a great help (I closed the link and can't find it again, sorry). Turn off the OS running...

Re: Linux Mint Editions –Testing for an Average User

The control center reports "no batteries found on this system". Which is what I would expect as this is a "desktop" with no batteries. I just changed in the power management from only display an icon if battery present to never display an icon, just to see if this might make a difference. No differe...

Re: Linux Mint Editions –Testing for an Average User

I'm not that familiar with using LM. I have installed this LM14 Mate on quite a few computers for friends who had trouble with windows as it is easy to use for former windows users. All of these installs went well, no issues, but all of them have been Intell cpu's with Intell chipsets. I am having a...

Re: Change super-user, how?

Hey thanks and Happy New Year to you too! Not sure if it makes much difference but there is no /etc/group folder on this machine. The rest of the stuff you mention does make sense and is an angle I haven't tried yet, a lot to remember, I'll need to make a list! The problem I was having seemed to mos...

Re: If Linux Mint disappeared tomorrow, what would you use?

I'd stick with PCLinuxOS, has a nice monthly magazine plus forums. I also like Antix, SolusOS and Scientific Linux, kind of a toss-up if LM went away.

Re: I think Linux has got this one :)

And what I find hilarious is Linux is far more powerful than What Mac and Microsoft have to offer cause their development is based on what sells versus what works. Not exactly true. the development of the concept of WYSIWYG was a major selling factor in the editing industry. Photoshop, Illustrator,...

Re: Installing Itunes on Mint 13 Maya to transfer mp3s to Ip

Your wine link refers to itunes version 10.6.1. There is no date for when that page was created. Is it current? I am trying to get LM14 to work for itunes and an iphone. Unfortunately it's not my iphone nor my computer, so I can't spend endless hours tinkering with settings. Personally, I would not ...

Re: 64-bit, how to determine? [SOLVED]

The ubuntu link was worthless. The intell wiki was slightly more helpful but not really. Apparently there is a huge plethora of pentium 4 chips out there and no clear means of determining which does what in terms a non-intell employee would recognize. I have a computer pentium 4 dual core with HT in...

64-bit, how to determine?

How do you know when looking at a cpu number if it's going to run 64-bit software? I have an old Dell with an Intell dual-core hyper-threading cpu installed and it won't run 64-bit software. Is there another parameter I need to look for when buying new chips? I thought that the HT was the key, could...

Change super-user, how?

I take older computers and install LM onto them and then give them to neighbors, grandkids and friends. I would like to find an easy way to remove the present administrator and put on the new owner. Presently I build the system for the owner which is impractical for a flea-market environ. The only w...

LM14 incorrect aspect ratio

Just installed LM14 mate onto a Shuttle X. Replacing Debian Etch. The detected monitor comes up as unknown and the resolution had the righthand controls on windows off the screen, 1280 x 1024. All screens appear stretched. If I select 1024 x 768, the various screens seem to fit onto monitor, but sti...

Re: Welcome Screen is stuck on top

you can turn it off so it don't come up. However, if you're setting the system up for a newbie, thinking those buttons are going to be helpful.... you're in for a surprise. Perhaps someone further-up the food-chain can fix this problem in an update?

I think your question would be better answered by going to this phoronix forum: http://phoronix.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?49-Phoronix-Test-Suite Linux Mint is a Linux OS. Phoronix is another Linux OS designed for testing PC's. As far as I know, you cannot run Phoronix on top of LM, it is used as a...

Using LM13-Mate 32-bit How do I get the Welcome Screen to stop sticking and becoming non-responsive? wireless won't turn-on [SOLVED]

Just installed LM13-mate onto a Dell attitude d620. Wireless detects a network but refuses to connect. lsmod shows iwl3945 installed. mintwifi shows wlan0 working but at end it shows powermanagement off. (wireless card is an Intel 3945abg) Testing with another linux distro the wireless works just fi...

Re: cannot add applets to Gnome panels

Well, if Gnome3 is broken, why is it being distributed? The new KDE is broken too, the stupid widgets don't stick which means every boot time you have to hunt them down again. Why can't the developers just enhance what already works instead of breaking what does? The only reason I put Linuxmint on w...
