Would be nice if the top post of this thread would point to the install script. Requested here . Re: requesting tutorial modification

Apologies for the delay in responding: with all the different posts which you link to I have failed to find out to which location the first post in this thread, Howto install LMDE with LVM (with or without encryption) , should point the readers. Good point. Here's what I would do: replace the beginn...

tutorial modification requested

I checked your script and the mounted squashfs seems to match what I have on my system drwxr-xr-x 21 root root 338 Feb 27 2014 /lib/live/mount/rootfs/filesystem.squashfs/ Great! I'll close the issue (though long-term I probably need to parameterize that anyway). Would be nice if the top post of thi...

[SOLVED] requesting tutorial modification

2 questions--1 general, 1 specific: We have a 3.5-year-old tutorial on Howto install LMDE with LVM (with or without encryption) . The procedure has evolved considerably since then :-) but the scripts for doing this task were not (IMHO) adequately managing change, so I started a git repository to do ...

bug: squashfs moved

the squashfs was not at the expected position (I use install from ISO off an USB stick) Looks like the Debian Live installer changed where it writes the squashfs from `/lib/live/mount/rootfs/filesystem.squashfs` to /lib/live/mount/medium/live/filesystem.squashfs I made an issue to track this and wi...

use a python package manager

I was trying to get Spyder3, the Spyder development environment with Python 3 , on my main PC. It's not in the Mint-Debian repo, but it's in Jessie. Consider in future using a *python* package {manager, repo}, such as Anaconda , to manage your *python packages*. `conda` especially is very good at u...

Re: BASH vulnerability a.k.a. 'Shellshock'

If I understand the way apt-get works, it -- by default -- installs the latest available version only . If [your] repo has a priority too low, a new version will not be installed unless you explicitly choose to do so. Package management functionality is now very fine-grained, aka potentially very c...

'-s' is your friend!

Maybe I should block bash update to prevent a roll-back of the vulnerable version in the next install update ? If I understand the way apt-get works, it -- by default -- installs the latest available version only. [...] Check the apt-get man page for details. Actually a better way to check, with ei...

cinnamon-2.0.14 crashing frequently on UP8

summary: How to fix (or further investigate) Cinnamon crashes on an up-to-date UP8 LMDE? details: I run cinnamon on my laptop with UP8 with no problems, so I put it on a friend's desktop (also running UP8 and up-to-date). On her box, cinnamon crashes frequently. Usually cinnamon puts up the dialog a...

[solved] python virtual environment for Enthought Training

I therefore want to install Canopy (and whatever else I need to do the Enthought training that is not independently available via debian packages) into a python virtual environment (not to be confused with a full VM like KVM, VirtualBox, or VMware) so as not to cause problems with dependencies of m...

[SOLVED] python virtual environment for Enthought Training

I'm running 64-bit LMDE UP8 with GNOME, which includes a system python and various python-using applets and applications. I have a long-standing interest in scientific software, but only recently acquired some spare time and an Enthought Training license. So I'd like to get setup to work their exerc...

Having recently received the Skype email requiring reinstall with new Skype version (or get locked out of the service ), I'd like to learn more about available, working substitutes for Skype for LMDE 64-bit. it's about the subdirs?

I have a complex symlink-based arrangement of various subdirectories in my $HOME. My life would be much simpler if both desktop installs could use - the same /home partition (which, I know, is possible), - same user-id for myself, and - one common $HOME directory you mean installing LM [MATE] along...

[solved] restarting Cinnamon via CLI

Just curious, and apologies if this is not really a Cinnamon question: I know I can restart Cinnamon with the key sequence [Alt-F2, r], notably because I just did :-) But if I just do the following, in a `gnome-terminal` running bash: $ r The program 'r' is currently not installed. To run 'r' please...
