Re: Problem watching dvb-t

I have a Gigabyte U7000 DVB-T USB stick and run LMDE 64bit with Nvidia driver installed. Me-TV works fine for both standard def and HD TV. As it works with VLC my guess is that you are missing a codec that the others need. VLC uses it's own codecs, not the system ones. You need to be able to decode ...

Re: Networking issue: LMDE refuses to create share in home

I used this guide to configure UFW for Samba. It was written for Ubuntu but it seems to work for LMDE as well.

Re: Networking issue: LMDE refuses to create share in home

I have a Billion router and Debain machines never have names in the DHCP table. I run a home network with an Ubuntu multimedia PC, two Android phones, one XP machine in wife's office, daughter's Ubuntu machine and an Xubuntu notebook. I also have a NAS attached that uses Samba for sharing. The all a...

HowTo: Canon MP640 on LMDE AMD64

I have a Canon MP640 Multifunction Inkjet working happily across my network, both printing and scanning, running under LMDE 64bit edition. For the 32bit version installation is simple - as root just run install.sh from the unzipped files. This basic procedure should work for all Canon drivers, which...

Re: LMDE SpinX3 Wishlist

I would like to see an Xfce 4.8 version or option in LMDE. Maybe just a meta package that can be installed from inside the Gnome version. I would guess that now Squeeze is stable and we move to Wheezy that many packages are going to rapidly stream from experimental to sid to wheezy and thus to LMDE....

Re: LMDE SpinX3 Wishlist

I don't know, I'm kind of a noob. I'm getting this error in :Failed to fetch http://archive.removed/ubuntu/dists/debian-removed/apps/binary-amd64/Packages.gz 404 Not Found , E:Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead. as well, so as you can see .deb isn'...

Re: Is LMDE working 100% for you?

Issues I have with LMDE are: 1.) Ctl+Alt+Delete wrongfully brings up system monitor (and I don't know how to fix it) 2.) foomatic-rip error on printing (posted on LMDE forum) 3.) Setting up Samba -- how? 4.) ufw configuation -- after setting up Samba 5.) printing via bluetooth Re Number 4 These com...

Re: Linux: Tricks of the Trade -- tips from our members

Ubuntu Guide provides enough information on using and configuring Ubuntu to make any beginner's head spin. A new guide is published with each update, so is usually complete by the time the corresponding Mint is released.

Re: Flash 10.2 - actual hardware acceleration in 32 bit!

Just a few observations As I understand it hardware acceleration is restricted to 32bit and only when using the nvidia propriety driver as it utilises vpdau as the interface. I did try it and it worked with a cheap GT210 card, but apart from cpu usage drop it did not provide a better video experienc...

Re: File Sharing with Samba

My comments about LMDE were just for you not burrina, as you mentioned that you thought nautilus-share should be the default for both versions and I wanted to point out that it will not work under LMDE without a lot more effort. With a home based multiuser machine having access to all shares by ever...

Re: File Sharing with Samba

The classic way can be an issue as many Debian based instructions are way out of date. Ubuntu and thus Mint keeps it's share definitions in /var/lib/samba/usershares whereas most HowTos still get you to edit smb.conf and add the shares at the end. In LMDE nautilus share will not work at all because ...

Re: File Sharing with Samba

I am guessing you started this the wrong way by trying to manually setup shares. Install nautilus-share and it's dependencies and delete /etc/samba/smb.conf and reinstall samba to create a clean smb.conf Restart Then use nautilus share to create the shares on each machine. Right click on a folder th...
