Re: Mint KDE vs. GNOME KDE with install kde-full

I did the same this time using the Software Manager. What I get is the option to boot into the other LM12 Gnome based desktops, as well as KDE. To me, it is the best of all worlds. As a user who likes the KDE desktop, I can boot into the others just to satisfy myself that I have what I like and don'...

Re: Working with Mint 10... worth the ugrade to 11, now to 1

I had LM10 KDE since it came out. It worked like a champ and the desktop interface was easy to transition to from Windows. I was having a problem getting video to work in Skype. I decided to try LM12 in case it would work better. It didn't work any better, but I decided to upgrade. After trying the ...

Re: linux loses another user forever

...Can also see where a person could install an earlier version of the kernel and call it done, also should take all of a couple mins ... Install one of the gazillion versions that predate the dreaded changes ... I was headed that way myself. I had LM10 KDE which worked fine, except for some issues...

Re: linux loses another user forever

...To do this I adopt exactly the same procedure as a windows user would - I press the function key along with the brightness up/down key... I can't answer for what the brightness settings are in the OS itself, but every laptop I've seen allows you to set the brightness level with a Function key. O...

Re: Mint 12 KDE

...My tactic though usually includes stripping away most of the Gnome stuff except the absolutely necessary dependencies. There is definitely something to be said for that. However, I recognize I'm the kind of user who likes to see something new, and I'm also curious about all the hub-bub regarding...

Re: Linux Mint KDE news

I too got interested in a rolling release. Then I read the caveats that said the updates could require you to tweak things to get your system working if an update was applied that didn't quite work as expected. I backed off at that point. Years ago, I loved the challenge of using all the commands in...

Re: Linux Mint KDE news

I mentioned this in another thread, but it is worth repeating. I installed the final release of LM12, then installed "KDE-Full". I now have the ability to boot into any of the desktop versions, and KDE 4.7.2 (which is what I use most often) has none of the issues you read about in the forum under Gn...

Re: Why Upgrade?

If you're looking for an easy transition from Win7 to Linux so you're not always wondering where to find things, I suggest the KDE versions of Linux Mint. While I like things like the new Gnome desktop in the way they designed it in LM12, I'm always wasting time going to the lower left corner to shu...

Re: Wine under Mint 12

Assuming you're using Wine 1.3, try uninstalling it and installing Wine 1.2. I use a Bible program, The Word, which runs fine under the older version, but doesn't under the newer version. BTW, I copied part of the path in your program, and if the Internet search returned the right result that is an ...

Re: Mint 12 KDE

Yeah, I've read for months of the issue of getting a KDE version built and the lack of resources to do so with. It probably is an issue if you don't want any Gnome software "contaminating" your system. I don't care. The Gnome software is residing quite nicely without causing any issues that I can fi...

Mint 12 KDE

FWIW, I decided to take a chance, figuring I had nothing to lose. I had installed Mint 12 and formatted the partions so it would install clean. After the installation, I installed "KDE-Full" from the Software Manager. I figured that if it didn't work, I could just reinstall from scratch with nothing...

Please edit your original post and add [Solved] to the beginning of the Subject line.

I'm glad it worked. For once, I can help someone else after being helped by so many others. :)

Re: ati mobility radeon driver

From ATI Radeon HD4350 driver issue <SOLVED> Here is what I did with an ATI Radeon HD4650. I'm not an expert at all. Just a newbie. But I pieced together some suggestions and it is working so far. 1. Go to the AMD webpage. The direct link to your driver is the same as mine. http://support.amd.com/us...

Re: Which version of Mint are forum users using, and why?

I selected Other. I used LM 10 - KDE since it came out. Recently upgraded to LM12 and installed KDE Full.

Perhaps it is simply familiarity, but I'm more comfortable with KDE.

This must be a "feature", right? Sorry, I couldn't help myself. :)

Does the Logitech you recommended work in Skype? Because I can get the VX-6000 to work in other programs, just not in Skype.

Thanks,

Webcam Not Working In Skype

I'm at a loss on this and have searched the Linux Mint forums, as well as others trying to figure it out. I've installed Skype both on the latest Linux Mint KDE version and now on the released Linux Mint 12. (Yes, it is on the servers! :) ) I cannot seem to get any video out of Skype. However, I can...

Re: Why linux will not displace windows on the desktop

I just have a question: if Red Hat crew can earn money on linux stuff and solutions, doesn't it mean that linux can be used in a professional area, not only in home environment as most 'hippies' use it? If is it so so why some govs make choice for Win or whatever else? I suppose the problem i...
