Re: LMDE 201303 or 201403 with luks encrypted lvm2 partition

Sure Tom. I see you somehow already 'found' the bash script I made for this task... I've decided to focus on 201403 only. We don't want to encourage people installing from the old 201303 iso, that does not make sense. http://j.mp/makelmdescript <-- NOW OUTDATED! USE http://j.mp/lmdescrypt INSTEAD It...

Re: LMDE 201303 or 201403 with luks encrypted lvm2 partition

Thanks for posting the Makefile, it's a nice option until proper support is implemented into the installer. Thank you for your review. Unfortunately, the latest version where I had fixed the encryption options got overwritten by an older version. This should be fixed now. I did change the default t...

Re: LMDE 201303 or 201403 with luks encrypted lvm2 partition

data_size=NO Overall, I am very happy the updated Makefile script for 201403 has been made available. Thank you! I had something more similar to what you propose, but it's more likely to fail for smaller spaces. This way, any install can fit in a smaller space. But people are encouraged to change t...

Re: LMDE 201303 with luks encrypted lvm2 partitions

I tried using your script on LMDE 201403, it didn't work. Sorry, I had been hacking on it after uploading, it now works for me at Cinnamon 32bit and Mate 64bit 201403. Btw you should add a setting for choosing cipher. It would not be difficult, but people who really require this can easily edit the...

Install LMDE with luks encrypted LVM using Makefile

Upgraded the Makefile to work with LMDE 201403 as well. It works for both the Mate and the Cinnamon 32bit and 64bit editions Makefile: http://j.mp/makelmde "This Makefile will result in a working install of Linux Mint Debian Edition edition (version 201303 or 201403) on a luks encrypted lvm2 partiti...

What in the install is breaking down?? I've never seen or heard of this.

Re: LMDE 201303 with luks encrypted lvm2 partitions

Thank you MoonSire for your debugging. I encorporated the modifications you linked to in your earlier post. And I added the pseudo-random filling of the encrypted partion, using badblocks. (That's already installed, has a progress bar, and has the nice side effect of making sure there are no bad blo...

Re: LMDE 201303 with luks encrypted lvm2 partitions

Yes, something like that is not hard to add. Usually people use pseudorandom data instead of zero though. The pv utility (or dfcldd) will need to be installed first for a progress bar. I'll look into this. The problem is also, it is likely to take very long... And I have never heard of a method to b...

Re: LMDE 201303 with luks encrypted lvm2 partitions

If I use the option Menu>Administrator>Update Manager It says "Please enter your password": When I do it then it simply says the password is wrong and won't let me run it. That is a bug in LMDE. The root account is disabled, but Debian (LMDE) doesn't support that as well as Ubuntu (Mint). If you ju...

You are right, that Makefile was only for i686 systems. I guess it can be adapt it for both amd64 and i686, I'll look into that. :)
I'm currently running LMDE amd64 myself. :D

It's based on Wheezy; /etc/debian-version says 'wheezy/sid'.

Re: Howto install LMDE with LVM (with or without encryption)

Totally encrypted drive and /boot on USB stick: I think you can just use the Makefile with root_device=/dev/sdb1 (or whatever) and grub_device=/dev/sdb

No idea why the same iso would work (or NOT work??) differently in your setup. If you get the same md5sum it really must be the same source... :?:

Re: LMDE 201303 with luks encrypted lvm2 partitions

I was using the LMDE 201303 Mate 32bit edition DVD. But after trying the Cinnamon edition, it similarly has /live/rofs/filesystem.squashfs filled with the squashfs, so it can just be copied. Can you do "md5sum /dev/sr0" (or whatever your iso is on)? It should be b82ad03d022c7ad56ef8195642494f41 for ...

Re: LMDE 201303 released!

Not sure what is happening. On /live/rofs/filesystem.squashfs/ is where the squashed filesystem should be mounted. The live environment uses that too. You could check the contents with: ls /live/rofs/filesystem.squashfs But if the Makefile indicates it can't find anything there, it's probably empty....

Re: LMDE 201303 -32bit installation failed

You could always try the Makefile approach (see above). If you really don't want full encryption or lvm2 you can edit the Makefile to suit yourself. The advantage is that you can see exactly what is happening, and where things fail (if they do 8) ).

LMDE 201303 or 201403 with luks encrypted lvm2 partitions

Great release! I have installed this on my harddrive now, zero problems. But since i require full encryption, I made this makefile to install on luks encrypted lvm2 partitions, so you get your swap and data partitions encrypted too: http://j.mp/makelmde <-- NOW OUTDATED! Re: Howto install LMDE with LVM (with or without encryption)

I think an encrypted home partition is supported, which might be sufficient for home users, but the above method encrypts the OS, the swap partition and optionally a data/home partition, so it is much more secure.
