Re: Lost mount point for installed Mint 12 that's still moun

That's what Rescatux does, among other things. And I imagine that Boot-repair does that, too. I have Gparted on two or three rescue disks, as well as in all my OSs. So, I guess that's what I'll rely on. Thanks. You need to run it from a disk other than the one you are working on. You can't change t...

Re: linuxmint.com web site should recommend MATE

Linuxmint.com shouldn't recommend any desktop as "their favorite"! Linuxmint.com provides an operating system which comes with different desktop environments. Which one the users likes the most depends entirely upon the users them self. Not on the website, the developers, or any other person involv...

You could simply download and burn gparted to a disk, boot with that and fix your Mount Point in Linux Mint 12.

Re: LM 13 Maya XFCE vs LMDE Xfce

IMO the two are enouigh alike that the desktops are going to work close to the same speed. However, with LMDE you have constant updates that may crash your system until they are corrected. LM 13 is stable and has the LTS (Long Term Support) along with it.

Not sure of the exact command. Open Terminal and copy/paste:

Code: Select all

sudo man kill
it will give you the variants for the correct command.

Re: Firefox 16.0.1

To update, open Firefox and click on Help + About Firefox. It will automatically download then ask you if you wish to upgrade. This is the Windows way of doing it. It will not work on Linux Mint as a rule, unless you have manually installed Firefox under your own account only. On Linux Mint you lau...

Re: Horribly slow installation.

Several factors come to mind. Did you check the iso md5sum before burning it to disk or USB stick? Which did you use? Computers vary and so do DVD readers and USB sticks. What did you use to burn the installer? Have you tried another?

Should not have a problem with permissions. Open in your favorite File Manager then drag and drop data into the window.

Re: Cannot reformat USB Flash drive.

I have been using a 2gb USB Flash drive for many months - I decided to reformat this drive to clean it up. I have tried everything I know but cannot get a reformat. The drive is no longer recognised by my computer. GParted recognizes the drive as dev/sdb , but will not carry out any operations. I h...

Re: Malware inserted on PC production lines, says study

I have bought two PCs, a desktop and a laptop. Both were wiped clean and Linux installed before they were even hooked up to a network. If you want to know why, the answer is Microsoft Systems are all buggy with security holes in all the software.

Re: Touchpad suddenly stopped working, but only for one user

Task manager can tell you what is running and give you some control over the applications. Might look at that users startup to see if anthing has changed, try starting touchpad disable then enable it again. Make sure they have not got something like gpointing-device-settings or another program insta...

The only thing you may have missed is the older drives had manual switches to place the drives in a physical order as mentioned earlier. Since this is an older computer that may be the case. There are no "stupid" questions.

Re: R.I.P.....for real!

I tried using the slowest speed when writing to disc, and it went OK until Brasero showed "Success," but then popped up with a box saying it wasn't able to (I forget the exact phrase it used) make the Sony open the tray. I'm assuming that means it couldn't finalize the disc, since it did show the "...

Re: R.I.P.....for real!

You're right on not having the disc in before making the Que that I want to compile. Brasero did try to burn it this time, but for some reason the Sony wouldn't finalize, and Brasero closed with an error saying that the Sony couldn't be unmounted. I'm not sure what I can do about that, but your adv...
