Re: Meta packages for Flux, xfce, etc

It's the same. The point is that I LOVE the default configs of each of the LMDE desktops. I would like to be able to install a meta package that will give me that out of box experience. I already am fully aware of the default debian packages. Anyway, I'm still interested in this. I don't see how it...

I actually don't have it installed yet.
When the login screen comes up hit Enter once, so it asks for your password. The Sessions menu is at the bottom of the page, there is no prompt, it is always there.

Re: How do I switch my desktop environment to XFCE or anothe

I want something closer to windows. I would just get the XFCE version, but I want the latest release (10) and only 9 is available. So could someone please give me step by step instructions on how to do this? Thanks. Install Linux Mint 10 Setup your networking. Update everything in Mint first. Open ...

Re: Cannot authenticate for root access while using xfce

The ones that do work are user access tools, although you should explain whether or not the synaptic package manager asks for a password when you use it The password it would be asking for is the root-like user (admin group) and the first user created by the installer process.. Good point, are they...

Re: Cannot authenticate for root access while using xfce

Still trying to help. Did you either of you install Xfce Goodies and anything else like the power manager for xfce4? Many things have dependencies that help other packages.

Re: Cannot authenticate for root access while using xfce

Yes, I've done all that and nothing happens when I click the lock. I wonder if it could be something to do with the Gnome keyring thing which I have yet to understand? Sorry, I don't understand Gnome keyring either. A few things other people might need to know: Have you changed anything other than ...

Re: Cannot authenticate for root access while using xfce

Thanks for the reply. I am the only user, but here might be a clue. Some authentications work, some don't. The ones that don't include: time & date; services; network; printing and login screen. The ones that do work include: update; synaptic package manager; gparted; log file viewer; software sour...

Re: Cannot authenticate for root access while using xfce

The only reason I can think this may happen is if you are logging in as a different user in Xfce. In that case the new user might not have access privileges. I've been running LMDE with Xfce for awhile, (since the 64 bit came out) and I've had no problems with it. I have only one user, though.

bobcollard, Until a couple of weeks ago I would have been able to check if there was a problem with your notification emails coming back. But,unfortunately, the gmail smtp server (which the forum was using for auto emails) broke rather badly in the middle of the night on Friday 14th Jan and no auto ...

Re: Nouveau Driver? Why?

Sorry to rant. Rant all you like. The powers that be think if they can get one thing working for everyone then they won't have to deal with the real problems. That is the problem with an "Out of the Box" system, there are too many different machines and setups out there to suit everyone. BTW, if yo...
