Re: ALC887 no sound

The names of the ubuntu versions are about the Linux kernels they are compatible with- all driver packages essentially contain the same driver. Please run in terminal and post the output: dkms list What you can also try, go to Preferences > Sound in the menu, on the Output tab try selecting differen...

Re: ALC887 no sound

This is very new hardware, you could try updating sound drivers. Please go to https://code.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-audio-dev/+archive/ubuntu/alsa-daily/+packages For Mint 17.x with the Linux 3.16 kernel, click the arrow next to "oem-audio-hda-daily-lts-utopic-dkms", then under Package files download t...

Please open Terminal from the menu, type the following command: inxi -Fx Then please press Enter, wait for the output and copy/paste it to the forum. Re: Problems with activate Broadcom WIFI on MINT 17.2

In your latest wireless-info, I still see a file called /etc/modprobe.d/broadcom-sta-common.conf which blacklists the open-source drivers for Broadcom. Did you uninstall the STA driver (proprietary driver for some Broadcom devices)? It does not support any of the SDIO devices as far as I know. If yo...

Re: T500 DVD drive ejecting

This ThinkPad has a so-called "UltraBay" which allows you to hot-swap the DVD drive with another device. Have you already tried taking out the DVD drive, cleaning the connector of any dust and putting it back in? You can likely take out the drive using a switch next to it, which you push to the righ...

Indeed at the top of the how-to, you are asked to install realmd, sssd, and a few other programs using an apt-get command. Installing them was indeed the right thing to do.

Do you mean, you want to disconnect the VGA monitor but disconnecting it is causing problems? On my ThinkPad T60 connecting & disconnecting a VGA monitor works fine. Please explain in more detail what you are trying to do. And to provide some information about your graphics hardware please open Term...

Re: Join mint to windows active directory 2008

I found a newer how-to at: http://www.ubuntugeek.com/how-to-join-ubuntu-14-04-to-active-directory-using-realmd.html This is probably easier with newer versions of Linux. Note however that he uses vi as text editor- feel free to use gedit or nano instead of vi in the commands, if you did not learn to...

Re: Libre office 5.01 mint 17.2 does not work with user

LibreOffice 5.0 is available from a PPA , which will replace the existing LibreOffice packages in Mint. Using a PPA is usually a better idea than installing software yourself. It integrates better with other parts of the Mint system this way, at least problems with user permissions and menu buttons ...

Re: Cinnamon 32 or 64 bit download ?

Because most Linux software is open-source, anybody can compile it again for another architecture. Hence the majority of the programs you use on Linux, especially those from the online repositories of 64-bit Linux distributions, is available in 64-bit version. On Windows on the contrary, many progra...

Re: Cinnamon 32 or 64 bit download ?

Generally I would recommend to use 64 whenever your computer supports it, unless you have few RAM (32-bit on machines with 1GB or less would be my rule of thumb but some people may disagree on that). You can check support by looking up your processor model. Usually it will be clear by a Google searc...

Re: Why not default install nomodeset?

Currently all preinstalled video drivers do require kernel modesetting for any kind of 3D acceleration. Only the NVIDIA/AMD official drivers which you can install after installing Mint, don't care about this option. nomodeset on a Mint system with only its preinstalled drivers (a DVD or USB stick wi...

Re: [SOLVED] Is my system 32-bit only capable?

Another way to detect 64-bit capability in CPU's, is the output of inxi which you posted at the top. I'll quote the CPU part (inxi -C) from it, CPU: Dual core Intel Core2 CPU 6600 (-MCP-) cache: 4096 KB flags: (lm nx sse sse2 sse3 ssse3 vmx) bmips: 9575.98 Clock Speeds: 1: 1600.00 MHz 2: 1600.00 MHz...

Re: Wine - Security risks?

Windows programs do not know that they are inside a .wine folder. In the Wine configuration, you can define drives one of which is the C: drive, ~/.wine/drive_c. On Mint 17, Wine by default also has a Z: drive for your Linux root. As Wine programs do not run as root, they don't have write permission...

Are you now using ndiswrapper? Please post the output of this command in terminal to view the wifi device/driver currently in use: inxi -N Realtek 8812AU is the chip inside your Linksys device according to wikidevi.com . There is a native Linux driver available for that chip: https://github.com/abpe...

Re: laptop wont boot with two hard drives connected

Unfortunately, I don't see anything that looks like it should be a problem. BIOS screenshots don't show anything that indicates it's UEFI -- so it appears to be a regular BIOS. (Still mystified by the miscellaneous Ubuntu and Mint boot entries though. I've never seen that before in a BIOS Boot Orde...

Re: Slow internet connection

The packages of levels 2, 4 and 5 are listed in /usr/lib/linuxmint/mintUpdate/rules. Anything else is 1 if it comes from Linux Mint, 3 if it comes from Ubuntu or elsewhere (most packages).
The mentioned packages are not listed in this file, and don't come from Mint, hence they are level 3.
