Re: CPU speed at one third?

Okay, I've tried using cpufrequtils to set the governor and speed, but no go. as in the previous quote it shows the current policy to get 600-600Mhz. At one point I did notice a change when I set the conservative governor. the Info revealed all the same except that now the conservative governor coul...

Re: CPU speed at one third?

Must be something to do with power/energy saving settings. What should happen is the CPU speed should increase when there's more load on it. And then decrease when it's idle or not doing much, this is what happens with my desktop. As far as i'm aware the CPU scaling feature for the panel works on m...

Re: Input from those who use electric shavers (facial hair)

For the past several years I've used a remington rotary, have replaced the blades twice(supposed to every year) the shaver was a gift but ran about $50-60 at the time, replacement blades are $27. Need pre-shave. It takes some time (week or so) for your face to get used to it coming from a blade. Is ...

Re: CPU speed at one third?

http://reviews.cnet.com/laptops/dell-latitude-d800/4507-3121_7-30880949.html An older graphics processor (video card), low RAM and a slow processor.. Thanks, I know the specs on the system, and I have 2 Gb of Ram in there, it doesn't explain why a 1.8 GHz proc won't run at more than 600 when on AC ...

Re: CPU speed at one third?

Thanks, I am learning...something....lol using gedit I checked sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq and plugged in the max scaling is 600000 as is the minimum, starting on battery the max is 1.4 as is the minimum. I would venture that is why the applet will not change the frequency. If I start on AC ...

Re: CPU speed at one third?

After all the digging, and seeing ways to set governors for AC or Battery, I pulled the plug, the one in the wall, and speed jumped to 1.40GHz so from what I can see the replacement power supply that came with the laptop is underpowered. Have to check with Dell to see what one I should get and then ...

Re: CPU speed at one third?

I gave up for the night. now off to work. One interesting tidbit, I have the CPU Frequency monitor in the panel. If I go to preferences where I should be able to set the Govnernor, that choice is not there as it is described in the help file. I disabled Speedstep, but that just kept it where it was ...

Re: CPU speed at one third?

I've seen some suggestions that it could be a heat issue, but that is reported at 39.5 C I did see some things in the package manager, and actually installed them, but then can't seem to find them anywhere, cpu frequency utilities etc. too new to linux for it to make much sense, I figured I could ad...

Re: CPU speed at one third?

yes I'm replying to myself. ;-)

found the CPU Frequency scaling monitor and added it to the panel. No matter what I set it at it stays at 600 mhz. Switch from on demand to performance, no change, switch to 1.8 Ghz, goes right back to 600 mhz.

CPU speed at one third?

A couple questions. a bit of history. I picked up a Dell D800 and installed Mint 10 main edition. 1.8 Ghz proc, I upped the RAM to 2 gig, but things still seem a bit slower than I would expect, and flash videos play poorly so I did a bit of investigating. Upon start up I noticed the CPU was actually...

Re: New to Mint....Nvidia ?

I loaded the nVidia drivers on my Dell D800 as I bought it to use the S-video out. the splash screen was ugly, but there is a tutorial on how to get the nice logo back. I did that and it's all fine now.

Re: Broadcom 14e4:4324 (rev 02) Wireless problems

I recently installed on a D800. Have you gone into control center and clicked on hardware drivers? it should show you which are available for your hardware. Mine directed me to the Broadcom firmware and the nVidia drivers. Installed easily. issue I had was my router doesn't broadcast SSID so I had t...

Re: Applet desktop for Diabetics

As an alternative I found a plug-in for Xcel which works partially in Open Office Calc. I can record the data, but the "script" for the chart does not work in OO. So I keep it as an xls file, email it to work before the doctor's visit and open in in Xcel and print.

Re: Why does my screen go dark sometimes?

I get the same thing. but I have noticed when the screen goes dim, like when I hit Reply to type this, teh HD light is on, so it's accessing the drive and the app is idle. Pointer still moves, but sometimes it doesn't. Dell D800 only 512 Ram (running Julia) installed Julia when I got the laptop a we...

Re: Linux Mint 10 reviews & thoughts

I'm new to linux in general and found Mint because I was looking at used laptops on ebay and some had been refurbed with Mint, and I liked the desktop graphic... ohhh shiny things....LOL but it got me interested. I did pick up a Dell D800 for about $100. It had a fresh install of XP, but as soon as ...

Re: no selection to install alongside WinXP?

Thanks Jix. I tried partioning in windows and it wouldn't do it. It rebooted etc, but came back with the one partition (40 Gb HD) and as I mentioned previously, I decided to jump in with both feet, and this morning wiped out XP and installed Mint 9 XFce.. It went smoothly, when I get home tonight I ...

Re: no selection to install alongside WinXP?

Thanks wayne128, but.... something got messed up in XP,(corrupted fonts so I couldn't burn a CD this morning) so I decided to jump in with both feet. Installing Mint9XFce as i type this (on another PC) I figure I can always change things up if I want. This D800 has a 1.8 processor and only 512mb of ...
