Re: wake up + loading screen

Yes i agree ... why are the Canonical ppl put such an effort in developing such an ugly hack as Plymouth? i have stayed with GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="text" and start the GUI with the old fashioned "startx" command from plain text mode- have made an nice ANSI /etc/issue and so...

Re: wake up + loading screen

hmm... I reinstalled the linux-header with synaptic, after which I was able to reinstall the nvidia driver through the 'additional drivers' application. I dunno how or why the upgrade broke it. In any event, I'm still having a problem with the booting screen -- the grub screen looks fine, it has al...

Re: wake up + loading screen

The dist-upgrade will not screw up the kernel headers. It will however install the latest stable kernel. When you boot up you will see both kernels listed in the grub screen and you can choose which one you want to boot. The dist-upgrade with x-swat enabled will upgrade the nvidea graphics driver w...

Re: wake up + loading screen

this is a disaster. I tried to uninstall the nvidia driver to reinstall, but it won't let me uninstall.. "SystemError: installArchives() failed" What the heck happened??? the "dist-upgrade" probably messed up your installation and left you with two kernels - and wrong kernel hea...

Re: Can't disable nouveau

I've been trying to prevent the nouveau module from loading at boot in order to install the Nvidia driver manually, but no matter what I try, the module is always loaded. I've tried blacklisting it, removing it from synaptic, even deleting the module and still every time I boot it says the module i...

Re: System crashes during splash screen

I had just got everything looking just right after the KDE 4.6.1 upgrade and then...the system crashes on initial boot-up with the message No write access to home/tom/.ICEauthority KDE is unable to start. I can still get into a command prompt so if anybody has any ideas I'd be grateful. Hi there wh...

Re: Dolphin wierdness after upgrade to KDE 4.6.1

Even still though you have got to admit the advantages are worth the one disadvantage. I personally have found my system to be a thousand times snappier. Yes you are rite on that - KDE 4.6.1 seem's alot more stable and robust - upgraded the kernel to 2.6.35-27-generic #48-Ubuntu SMP and NVIDIA Driv...

Re: NetworkManager NOT work and general flaky font behaviour

Hey there i have installed Linux Mint 10 KDE a few days ago For this I will strong suggest that you change and update to the XSWAT PPA drivers over the stock OEM drivers.
