There are many reasons, security is one of them. The choice is yours.

Some of my computers still run Mint 9 LTS and they work fine.

Re: The Mint 15 joke

If everything goes as usually, Mint 17 LTS should be released in May or June 2014. That's 4 to 5 months after Mint 15 end of life. Upgrading to Mint 16 or downgrading to Mint 13 LTS is recommended.

Re: Mint is heavier than Win 7 ?!

Mint was heavy on the rig, it uses less ram but more CPU and more graphic, and I can hear the fan works in highest performance. I don't know how to put it in right words, let's say it's like playing heavy game for long time, and the rig start getting overheated ! What graphic card do you have? Coul...

No Mint, o comando "inxi -Fxxx" apresenta um resumo da informação do hardware. Com "sudo inxi -U" é possivel fazer ter a versão mais recente do inxi.

Re: How far can you strip your Linux Mint?

Striped Mint 12 LXDE: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=42&t=96465 Mint comes with everything you need from the start, it's easy to strip what you don't need but harder to improve for everyone. Now that the Mint LXDE is gone, both the XFCE and the MATE editions are good options for some tu...

Re: auto login on LXDE 11, how?

What are all of you trying to do ? Auto login into lxde ? Not to LXDE but to Linux Mint 11 (and 12) LXDE, both are EOL. Following the instructions give here https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/LightDM#Enabling_Autologin You may not need the second step of adding user to that group. Good to know bu...

Re: Mint 15 on a Netbook

On the Intel N450 Cinnamon is a little slow when you open the Mint menu and use alt-tab. It's like than since Mint 13 and I will probably move to MATE or XFCE on my netbook.

Re: Running in Software rendering mode

Don't know if you can run 3D accelerated Cinnamon or if that would make a difference with that card but if the Cinnamon edition is slow it's better to try the MATE or XFCE edition.

Re: Compaq Evo n610c 256mb RAM 40gb harddisk

You can run Linux Mint with only 256MB of RAM but expect lots of swapping, especially if you use Firefox, Chromium or another memory hungry program. The old LMDE XFCE and Mint 12 LXDE were good options, you can upgrade Mint 12 LXDE to Mint 13. Here are some things you can do to make it faster: http:...

If your installations are identical, you can install to your machine and copy the deb files from the apt-get cache to the disc. You can also use Synaptic to download the packages without installing: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Synaptic/PackageDownloadScript https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Sy...

The installer requires about 5GB total, if you install with a 2GB usb pen it should work because it adds your disk space with the pen space.

Re: Looking for Light weight Linux for my old PC !! ??

Installing LXDE on top of any Mint edition it's a good solution and gives you the opportunity to improve your skills. Another option is to start with Lubuntu 12.04/12.10/13.04 or Debian 7 LXDE and make it look and feel more like Mint.

Re: System is not Halting in Linux Mint 12

Mint 12 has reached end of life, it's recommended you upgrade to a newer supported version like Mint 13 LTS (support until 2017), Mint 14 (support until April 2014) or Mint 15 (supported until January 2014). You can still use Mint 12, if that is your option my advice is that you start by upgrading t...

Using zram should probably help a little, it will use some of your RAM, compressed with lzo as swap.
