Re: Which Mint for 256MB RAM and Pentium III?

Try this for etc/fstab: http://tldp.org/LDP/solrhe/Securing-Optimizing-Linux-RH-Edition-v1.3/chap6sec73.html For a lighter and faster system you could also start with a Debian minimal install: http://www.debian.org/CD/netinst/ Then install only what you need, for LXDE just run: # apt-get install lxd...

Re: Mint Versions

I have Mint 10 (GNOME) on a netbook (Asus 1001P) and it works ok. If I had to move to something lighter and faster I would probably chose Mint LXDE.

Re: Partitioning questions

You have plenty of RAM left.

Your programas are using about 170MB but overall you are using about 420MB due to cache and buffers.

Re: What should I install 32bit or 64bit

So I finally had the time to test Linux Mint 10 64bits and sometimes it felt a little faster but I was not sure. I decided to test it using the Phoronix Test Suite: http://www.phoronix-test-suite.com/ First I installed Linux Mint Debian Edition 64bits but while the live DVD booted and worked just fi...

Re: What should I install 32bit or 64bit

Perhaps it's my system or my utilization that didn't show any big differences the last time I tried 64bits.

I have to take Mint 10 64bits for a spin.

Re: LXDE vs GNOME on netbook

I have a Asus Eee 1001P with a Intel N450 Atom CPU and 1GB of RAM and I run Mint 10 (GNOME). It's not fast but it runs ok. I have tried to install Mint 9 LXDE but it didn't boot. I tried Crunchbang (Debian based) and Archbang and both were faster but in the end I like Mint 10 better. I also have LMD...

Re: Isadora vs. Julia

I like both Mint 9 LTS and Mint 10. On the netbook I use Mint 10 because it works well with the wifi chip (on Mint 9 I had to use ndiswrapper) but on the desktop I use Mint 9 because it's a LTS version and I like the idea of a stable release with 3 years of support. I plan to keep Mint 9 LTS until t...

Sorry, but that is completely and utterly wrong.
OK. So what version do you think he should use and why?
(both versions will run with 1 or 2GB of RAM)

Re: compiling latest hugin

I also wanted to use a more recent version of Hugin but did not want to compile anything. I am using Mint 9 LTS so i just installed Linux Mint Debian Edition on Virtualbox and updated the LMDE. Now I have Hugin 2010.4.0 runing on the Virtualbox and it works great. Just an idea.

Re: What should I install 32bit or 64bit

Well, Linux Mint 10 is based on Ubuntu so I checked Ubuntu documentation on the subject: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/32bit_and_64bit Small transcription: "What should I choose - 32 or 64 bit? Unless you have specific reasons to choose 32-bit, we recommend 64-bit. " I could bet it said exactly ...

Re: What should I install 32bit or 64bit

I think that with only 1 or 2 GB of RAM you should go with the 32bit version. The 64bit version only makes a big diference with 4GB or more.

Hello from Portugal

Hello, I'm new to this forum, I've been using Linux Mint since Mint 7. Now I use Mint 10 on the netbook and Mint 9 LTS on the desktop. I also like to play with Linux Mint Debian Edition so I have that on both systems. I installed Linux Mint on several friends and family computers in dualboot with Wi...
