You can also burn the plop boot manager to the CD and use that to boot from the USB.

Re: Meu note trava quando ligado a rede

Isso pode ser um problema de drivers, acpi, etc. É preciso mais informação sobre o computador e sobre o sistema operativo. Podes correr "inxi -Fxxx" num terminal e meter aqui a informação relevante.

Re: 32- bit vs 64-bit

The first difference is that while your OS can see all 16GB, it is in 4GB blocks and no application or process can access it all. If the Linux 32bit OS can see all the 16GB of RAM it's because is the Linux PAE kernel. The limit is 4GB per process, not per application because some applications can u...

You could also try LXDE and LMDE it's faster than the main Mint edition.

Re: Using Zram in LMDE (Liquorix kernel only I think).

You can use zram with any supported Mint edition except Mint 9 LTS, zram needs kernel 2.6.37.1 or more recent. Some Mint editions (started with Mint 11) used zram in live mode when there was less than 512MB of RAM available to speed up the installation, not require a pre-installed swap partition and...

Re: Where to start with Linux programming?

I would suggest Python, it's easy to learn, easy to read and Mint uses Python in many of the Mint tools. This subject was already discussed several times in this forum and there are a lot of good suggestions in this threads: Easiest Programming language Learning how to program Programming [solved] P...

Re: Mint 14 System Requirements

Good to find this thread. I have a Gateway LT4004U netbook with 2GB RAM, Intel Atom N2600 CPU and Mint 14 will not load. I've loaded it within the virtual machine, checking the PAE box in the system applet. But there is nothing in the boot options to address this. I guess I need to find Mint 13. Th...

You can still run Mint without PAE, use LMDE (Linux Mint Debian Edition) with the i486 kernel.

Re: Pentium 4 2.4/1GB S-L-O-W in Mint 13 Mate. Help?

When the computer is slow open a terminal window, run top and look at what is using the CPU and/or RAM. Flash is slower on Linux than in Windows and Firefox (or Chromium) is not the lightest browser around. Install addblock to block the publicity that slowdown the computer, try another light browser...

Re: Do I need a swap partition?

On a 24gb I wouldn't even see a need for swap. It will depend on the type of utilization. For typical use I don't even see the need for 24GB of RAM but some specific uses may use a lot of RAM and need a lot of SWAP like servers, playing with a lot of VM's, graphics and video editing, some scientifi...

Re: Eee-pc heating up when using xfce (even when idle)!

I have the Eee 1001P and it only overheated with Ubuntu 11.04 and was a kernel bug/driver problem that was fixed by updating the kernel, something Mint doesn't do by default. My advice is to update the system with level 1 to 5 updates and check if solves the problem. If it doesn't use "top" to see w...

You should use top to see what is slowing your computer down. Could be a driver issue.

I wrote some tips for Mint 12 LXDE here. Some apply to any linux system.

Re: Upcoming Linux Mint Olivia, Please, NON-PAE version

Then, apologies if I am insisting and highlighting that issue again, is there any opportunity to add a bit of more time, one task more to connect with Ubuntu Team and maybe bot Mint and Ubuntu could come up with a solution, you never know. The 32bit i686-pae only kernel for Ubuntu 12.10 and newer w...

Re: Mint 14 System Requirements

I don't know why pae is a requirement for the 32 bit kernal. It seems a rather odd choice. Ubuntu decided that, the Ubuntu based Mint editions use the Ubuntu kernel so Mint 14, Mint 15, etc also require pae support. It's for the 32bit kernel to support more than 4GB of RAM and up to 64GB. 32bit lim...

Re: Optimizing SSD

I turn off journalling on some partitions but not on my data partitions and not on my main OS partitions. I have data backups and I could restore the system with clonezilla but it's my personal preference to leave journalling on if I consider the partition important. My secondary systems (and Virtua...

Re: not updating from Mint11 (katya)

Mint doesn't have the official Mint 13 LXDE but Mint 13 XFCE LTS is also light. You can download the ISO file and use a USB pen to install Mint to that netbook. I like to use UNetbootin to prepare the USB pen but there are other ways: http://community.linuxmint.com/tutorial/view/744

Re: Installing Mint to older computer ?

You could burn the Plop Boot Manager to CD and use Plop to boot from USB. This way you can use any current Mint Edition.

You could also use Mint 12 LXDE CD and upgrade to the Mint 13 base with apt-get.
