Re: mint 10 update...

Maybe, it depends on the card speed. The Eee SSD is very slow by modern standards so a decent card should work.

Re: mint 10 update...

You can install any Mint 9 LTS (LXDE, Fluxbox, XFCE, etc). The Mint 12 LXDE installer requires 4.2GB of disk space to install (but uses less), your Eee SSD only has about 3.7GB but the installer also adds the space from USB pens and memory cards so should work if you use a USB pen or memory card to i...

Re: Trouble installing Mint 14 XFCE

You can run Mint 12 LXDE. Because you only have 256MB of RAM I recommend you check this to improve performance. Mint 12 LXDE only has a few months until EOL so upgrading to Mint 13 is a good idea because has support until 2017. Otherwise it's better to go with Lubuntu 12.04, Crunchbang, AntiX, Debia...

Re: Linux Mint 13 Using too Much Memory

If you are running the 64bit version it's normal. If you are running the 32bit version it's to much but you can use top (or htop, etc), press shift-m to check what is using the RAM.

Just after boot Mint checks for updates so it's not necessary running nothing.

Mint 12 LXDE upgrades to Mint 13. Runs well with only 384MB of RAM and it's a good option.

If you are using some swap and want faster performance try zram. It's a compressed RAM disk used for swapping that has much better I/O performance than HDD.

You should try this:
xenopeek wrote:You are using Cinnamon? I'm not sure, but that might be taxing for your GMA950 GPU. I'd try MATE or Xfce instead, see if that gives better stability.
Also check you system temp when playing the video.

Re: Mint 13 XFCE install problems IBM Thinkpad X30

You could install Mint 12 LXDE and upgrade to the Mint 13 LTS base.

It's probably better to use Plop to make your computer boot from the USB pen even if the BIOS doesn't support USB boot. This way you can install any Mint CD or DVD Mint edtion.

Re: Notebook TRAVA/CONGELA quando colocado na bateria

Muitas vezes isso acontece porque o BIOS não está a utilizar o acpi correctamente. Se continuar a dar problemas experimenta actualizar o BIOS.

Re: Recent Lag Issues w/ Julia LXDE

Mint 10 LXDE is not supported since April 2012. It's better to move on, Mint 12 LXDE is the latest Mint LXDE release but is also on it last months of support so it's better to try Mint with XFCE. Both Mint XFCE and Mint 13 XFCE are good options and Mint 14 XFCE RC should soon be available. I have a ...

Re: Install LM14 on Dell Latitude D410

If that Pentium M lacks pae support it's better to run Mint 13 LTS with some Mint 14 backports instead but with some work you may be able to install Mint 14.

Re: Please, a question re Linux Mint Lxde...

Would I do this in "Software Sources"? No, from the command line. I did this on some of my systems without problems and works in fresh Mint 12 LXDE installs but could give problems with your install so it's a good idea to backup the system with Clonezilla before the upgrade. Here's how: - Reboot th...

Re: Best version of Mint for old laptop?

You have enough RAM and CPU to run Mint 12 LXDE or Mint 13 XFCE fine. Mint 12 LXDE is faster but is less than 6 months from EOL while Mint 13 XFCE is supported until 2017 and because of that is a better option.

Another good option is LMDE XFCE.

Try a few and find the best for you.

1. If I start to edit boot code in the manner that you recommend will there be any risk to my netbook hardware? No damage is expected. 2. In a previous reply you wrote, “It's time to use some boot code like acpi=off, etc.”: Is “acpi=off” the only boot code that you'd recommend? Should I experiment ...
