Re: Best browser for Linux?
Firefox for most users, followed by Opera. For those users with slow ISP's, Opera's Turbo speeds up browsing. It's a shame to see that browser at the bottom of the bucket, next to Safari, as it's a good browser. My opinion on Chrome (or Chromium) is that it may be a tiny bit faster as a clean browse...

Re: Regarding Mint 9 LTS Isadora
Releases are supported for 18 months, not just 6. Upgrading to the latest version is OPTIONAL. Two more can be released and "seasoned" by updates and bug fixes in the time it takes one to run out of support. If 6 months is too fast, then just wait awhile! No hurry, no mandatory upgrade. I...

Re: To Any One Who is Having ATI issue Here is Some Help
gorellana09 can you please be more specific with the issues you are having. I will not be able to submit bugs until monday, but I would like to have information about your issue. To people posting in this thread I just realized that ATI requires and email that they can reach you at. I will be maint...

Re: Can't get Mint 12 RC installed & running properly
OK, to update this thread, I installed the 32 bit version of Mint 12, to correct another issue (printing). Is anyone else having issues with the graphics drivers update? I still haven't tried to reinstall it yet, & not quite sure if I need to. The screen looks fine, as I've already stated, much ...

Re: Best browser for Linux?
My favorite is Firefox. Opera is my second. But opera slower in Linux if compare it running in MS Windows. Opera has a "Turbo" setting, I've used it on XP, but haven't on Mint or Ubuntu. If that feature is available in Linux's version of Opera, it's worth checking out. That is, if speed i...

Re: Best browser for Linux?
I say Google Chrome, or Chromium if you can't install Chrome with the .deb installer. Opera's a close 2nd (it has many features), & Firefox is last. Although I used to be an avid Firefox fan, their constant upgrading causes some of my favorite extensions not to work. I'm not one of those who ref...

By using the live CD to "rescue" Window$ for them. Most of the ones that I know cannot fix their Window$ crap, so by me fixing it for them, they get to use the Live CD for other things. Such as checking email or the local weather, prior to me fixing their issue. I usually fix computers whi...

Re: No Google...is a no no
As I recall it, "Duck Duck" was added to protect or privacy, a matter that Google falls short upon. I've only used it a couple of times, the search was redirected to EarthLink. Doesn't really matter to me anyway, I've been using "ixquick", an add on to many browsers, & has be...

Re: Promotion using virtual machines
I like the OP's post better, VM's are a great tool to evaluate OS's. Plus, unlike a live CD, one can install software on it, install the printer, whatever needs doing. I use VM's almost daily, VBox & VMWare Player, and get to try out many different OS's. Live CD is OK, in fact can save the day, ...

Re: Linux Mint 12 "Lisa" RC released!
Yesterday, after running Linux Mint x86 in VBox & VMWare Player (both were too slow), I decided to do the real install. All would've been fine, had I not installed the AMD/ATI graphic drivers, which normally does fine. I first tried the 64 bit (I have 64 bit hardware, so I run a 64 bit OS), then...

Re: 32 Bit vs 64 Bit
This thread can go on & on, here & other places, there'll always be someone starting it. My last two cents on the issue. If one has 64 bit hardware, it's best to go with 64 bit, regardless of OS brand. There are many apps now on the market for 64 bit, with more on the way. I've had both, &am...

Re: Can't get Mint 12 RC installed & running properly
Hopefully, the issue is solved (at least for now). On my 4th attempt at installing, I simply didn't install the graphics driver that was recommended after the install was complete. Usually, I always install the drivers (w/no issues at all), but since I've narrowed down my issue to it, I'll let it go...

Here's the easy way to install this printer in Mint 9,10,11 x64, as well as 10.04 & up Ubuntu x64. 2nd post by paulnewall. http://sourceforge.net/projects/cupsdriverkodak/forums/forum/1107085/topic/3821012 After you use the terminal option to install (option 1), then turn on your printer, your O...

Can't get Mint 12 RC installed & running properly
After trying out Mint 12 RC x86 in VBox & VMWare (latest of both), I decided it was time for the real deal. So after downloading the 64 bit version, I installed it on a drive (dual booting with XP Pro). I decided to import no settings, wanting a clean install. After the installer was finished, t...

Re: Linux Mint 11 "Katya" released!
Many thanks to the Mint developers for 11. I began with 7 (Gloria) over 2 years ago, skipped 8 for the most part, stayed with 9 LTS for some time, skipped 10 (as with 8), and now am at 11. I love it! Mint 10 wasn't enough to lure me away from 9 LTS, but 11 was. More choices, Firefox updates to the c...

Re: 64bit version mint4win?
As always before making a big change, be sure to backup your Windows install before attempting this. It didn't work for me, in fact it wiped out my data partition. Perhaps it was a mistake on my part for installing it there, but I've kept data (including VM's) separate from my OS install for years. ...

Re: 32 Bit vs 64 Bit
It's only been a week since I've converted my Linux installs (Mint 11, Ubuntu 11.04) to 64 bit, it's worked out well for me. My desktop has 4GB RAM, laptop has 6GB. Being that I need to use VirtualBox at times, I seen it as my best option. The only app that hasn't worked well for me since moving to ...

Re: Mint 9 "Isadora" LXDE install fails on Windows 7 Virtual
Same issue goes on today with Mint 11. It appears that Windows Virtual PC is geared towards business/corporate users. Anyway, VirtualBox & VMWare Player are preferable products over Windows Virtual PC. The only use that I ever had for it, was that with Windows 7 (versions Pro & Ultimate) off...

Re: 32 Bit vs 64 Bit
Both of my computers have 64 bit hardware. I've tried 32 bit Mint (currently running Mint 11) on both, PAE was enabled, but that's not quite the same as a true 64 bit install, as far as using 4GB (or more) RAM. I run Windows 7 on VirtualBox, there is a noticeable difference between a true 64 bit OS ...
