Re: Sudden strange behaviour: keyboard and suspend

Please generate an overview of your system like this: - Launch a terminal window (this is how to launch a terminal window) ; - make the terminal window full screen, to avoid chopped lines; - Copy/paste this command into the terminal: inxi -Fxz Thanks; here is the output. mark@mark-AB350M-D3V ~ $ in...

[SOLVED] Sudden strange behaviour: keyboard and suspend

Since yesterday afternoon, my previously stable system has been behaving oddly. I can not use the carriage return or enter keys, nor cursors, backspace or delete keys in applications. It's not consistent; when logging-in after switching on, I can type my password, but can't 'return or 'enter', I hav...

Experience with AM4 motherboard and Bristol Ridge APU

I'm not sure where to post this, but as long as it's posted somewhere, hopefully it can be found if someone in need goes searching! I just thought I'd record my experience of Linux Mint 18.3 and a new budget PC I put together for myself based around the AMD AM4 platform, the problems I encountered, ...

Re: New PC, no sound in WINE

Well, updating WINE seemed to work quite well. Partial success, in as much as Sniper Elite is now working perfectly with sound, and Age of Empires seems to work OK once the game has started. Once the latest WINE was installed, I started testing by running AOE. It is very slow to move between the var...

Re: New PC, no sound in WINE

So I dunno, try changing the audio settings in winecfg and/or on the programs. Thanks. I did try the drop-down, changing it from system default to Pulse Audio, but still no sound. I don't think it's a problem with Pulse Audio itself, since I'm hearing sound outside of WINE. I can't alt-tab out of S...

Re: New PC, no sound in WINE

Might a newer version help, or is there some little configuration trick I can use? I'm not sure who did what to whom from your post, so on the problem system: - do other programs have sound? - does winecfg -> Audio -> Test Sound make "bloop" noises? Edit: - can non-wine linux programs mak...

New PC, no sound in WINE

Hi, I built myself a budget PC this weekend, around the AMD AM4 socket. It all seems to be working OK, except two games I could play fine on my old Intel-based system have no sound in WINE. Brief system specs: AMD A6-9500e APU, Gigabyte AB350M-D3V motherboard, integrated graphics and sound, 8GB RAM....

ACER ASPIRE V11 TOUCH: cannot shutdown or restart, & crazy touchpad pointer

A colleague donated an Acer Aspire Touch V11, specific model V3-112P-C797. Nothing fancy, but a nice step up from a netbook. I've installed Linux Mint 18.3 MATE 32-bit, and by and large everything seems to be working fine, except that I can't shut down or restart, and the touchpad's mouse pointer go...

Re: [Solved] Unable to boot any Mint version on old laptop

Revisiting this in case it helps anyone else.

Interestingly, the same laptop that wouldn't boot 17.x is happily booting 18.x, and from both DVD and USB stick.

There must have been some component of 17.x that the laptop didn't like, which has been updated or replaced by 18.x.

Re: Install without live media

I see this is sort-of solved now, and not a recent topic, but I thought I'd add this in case it helps anyone else. I have an old Advent laptop that will not successfully boot from Linux Mint Live discs or USB flash drives. It would boot from other Linux distro Live or install media, however. Even us...

Re: Configuration of Live CD Mint Linux in generell

I'm no expert, but this sounds like the Live disc is using a generic VGA driver, but the installed OS is using something else. I had similar issues with a known problematic graphics chip, the SIS Mirage series. The Live disc booted OK with a reasonable image quality, but when installed the picture w...

Re: which version suits my old samsung netbook?

I have a Samsung N130, with near-enough identical hardware to yours. It runs fine with Mint XFCE 17.1. The screen width of 1024 pixels means you rarely have to 'scroll' web pages to see the whole thing, and so far I've not encountered any problems with the shallow netbook screen height of 600 pixels...

Re: Random Rebooting on Inspiron 1545

I'd try to rule out hardware problems first. 1. Check to see if there is an overheating issue. Not saying you do, but a lot of people who use laptops stick them on their bed while using it, for example, and it clogs the cooling vents, fan and heatsinks with fibres and dust. 2. After ensuring there's...

Re: Can't write files to SD Card -- Mint claims it's read on

... I'm not a fan of USBs since they stick out too much. Not a technical answer, but you can buy very short USB sticks, I've one here bought recently that's only 25mm long, including the USB plug. It sticks out only 12mm or so when plugged in. Kingston DataTraveler Micro, mine is 8GB, they also hav...

Re: Best Desktop to Connect a TV?

I'm not an expert in either Linux or monitors/TVs, but one obvious solution springs to mind, and that its to try live disc or USB stick versions of the different Mint versions. Try a live MATE version, then a live Cinnamon version, and see which works best. This way you don't mess about with your wo...

Re: Using empty space on live USB flash drive

Put a FAT32 partition first, then put a second FAT32 partition on the flashdrive. Install the LIVE part to the second partition... That's the secret. Have a first partition and then install the ISO to any other partition you create behind it. Thanks for that, I'll give it a go. One question: I use ...

Please post a Gparted or Disks screen shot looking at the UFD in question... Thanks for the replies, and sorry for not getting back sooner. Might also be worth testing the RAM, something that most live distros offer in the initial menu.

Re: Using empty space on live USB flash drive

it should be possible to use Gparted to achieve that. without affecting the existing live media, that is. but - you would have to perform that operation from another live environment, though. Thanks; I've just tried GParted from System Rescue CD, but again with no luck. It complains that there's an...

Using empty space on live USB flash drive

I'm not really sure which is the right place to post this, but I feel like a newbie since this should be simple. I expect a lot of it is due to having forgotten the 'rules' about partitions and formatting drives. I have a 2GB USB flash drive with live Mint 17.1 XFCE on. This works just fine. There i...
