Re: netflix on mint17

Yep. Using Irishwoody's instructions, I was able to get Pipelight to install and work. I had tried so many times, I thought my computer just had a hate on for it. But it was just a thoroughly confused me, probably. Netflix-desktop alone did function very well for me in past releases. Amazon streamin...

It's my routine to keep things updated, and I assumed that's what happened.

Re: Synaptic again

Aha. I wish I had read about this. I ended up screwing my whole Cinnamon desktop trying to fix Synaptic. I reinstalled and decided to go along with the program, even though I had no clue there was one, and haven't touched Synaptic once. So my Cinnamon is back to perfect, but I kind of miss dear old ...

Re: Netflix

Hi, Dave. Welcome. :D I followed Irishwoody's step by step instructions. (I only skipped the step of installing Firefox). http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=90&t=168266#p866278 It's going very well for me. I hope it will for you, too. I did remove the previously installed stuff. I don't...

Re: Sabayon

Hi, Exploder :D I'm still running Ubuntu Gnome 14.04 since punching up to 3.12. It retains a couple of small problems, such as having to reactivate extensions after a restart, but overall going very well and lovely. I've used Sabayon KDE on and off in the past. I liked it a whole lot, so I might fol...

Re: wine-silverlight installer shows before login screen

Me, too. I didn't notice it right away on LM 17 Cinnamon final, because I wasn't logging out that much for a while. But, yes, every time before logon it happens. Once logged in, Netflix works. The installers are not showing on 14.04 Ubuntu, Lubuntu or the Netrunner RC before logon, so it seems to be...

Re: new install mint17 can't add repos via terminal

I haven't seen that error in the final release I installed this morning. It was in the LM 17 Cinnamon RC release, but it was soon corrected in an update. I don't know why you would be getting the error at this point. However, if you want to try something, I would steer you to Irishwoody's post in th...

Re: What Linux Distros do you currently use?

Currently, I am very happy using Linux Mint 17 Cinnamon and Lubuntu 14.04. I am trying out the RC Netrunner 14.rc1 and it's so beautiful, I know I'll have to keep it. I plan to install final versions of Elementary Isis and Deepin 2014. I've done some experimenting with Arch-based systems lately, as ...

Re: How do I fix GRUB menu?

You can also try boot-repair. In Terminal, while logged into Mint: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:yannubuntu/boot-repair sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install boot-repair Using boot-repair, select Recommended Repairs. Let it do its routine. When it says so, restart your computer. Mint will be at the...

Re: Linux Mint v17 Cinnamon 64 Bit RC to Final?

I'm not planning to reinstall this time. The RC is in excellent condition and unless something serious goes wrong between now and the final release, we should be good.

Re: Elementary Freya or Ubuntu 14.04

Welcome :D As far as I know, the developers have not released Elementary Freya as yet. Elementary Luna, the current long term support edition, is great and I expect Freya will be, too, when it is released in its final version. The Elementary team takes its time getting things the way they want them....

Remarkable movement upward by Elementary. I never know what to think about these poll things, but even half-true, it's good for them.

Good point. I don't mind, because I have sufficient resources that adding it doesn't affect overall performance, but others might. Thanks.

Re: Burning iso disk

My computer never likes Brasero, either, for some reason. I install k3b in all systems. It's very reliable. Right click the downloaded iso file in your Download folder. Open with k3b. Except to set the burn speed to 4x, I accept the defaults. Never failed, so far, and it's been years. I am trying to...

Don't be nervous. Take one step at a time and be deliberate. Don't rush head first trying to know all there is to know right away. Take it easy and you'll be fine. Welcome :D
