I am using NFS but am NOT encountering your symptoms. My shares connect without issue
I gave you my settings
If they work, you can google each flag and determine if it is the cause of your situation
Thanks,
This is a good place to start.

Re: NFS file sharing issue (Mint 17 XFCE Thunar related)

Thanks.
In an effort to understand why, can you tell me what options I should be looking at that effects what is happening?

NFS file sharing issue (Mint 17 XFCE Thunar related)

Hello, Been using NFS file sharing with Mint Xfce and I have always had a strange behavior with the automounting from the fstab config file. Here is an example Fstab entry: 192.168.1.200:<path to directory> /home/user/Videos/VideoNAS nfs auto,noatime,nolock,bg,nfsvers=3,intr,user,tcp,actimeo=1800 0 ...

Re: Why Linux Mint seems more User-Friendly than Ubuntu?

Mint seems designed to be user friendly from the ground up. Not only that, but so much work has been put into giving the user base what they've asked for. Don't forget that there was a mass exodus away from Ubuntu when Unity was introduced, and they came to Mint. Cinnamon, if I recall correctly, wa...

Re: Issue with Macbook with OSX removed

Thanks for the response. I actually tried rEFInd yesterday with OSX and Debian and installed rEFInd from OSX. It sorta worked but the behavior was weird. I can't remember exactly but it was something like this: - Cold boot: went straight to Debian - Soft boot from Debian: went to rEFInd and allowed...

Re: Issue with Macbook with OSX removed

You can (and it's in fact recommended) install refind from OSX. Personally that's what I did to get a dual-boot OSX/Mint on my 2010 MacBook Pro. Works like a charm. Another standard option would be to bless grub from OSX to register it as the default bootloader. Then grub would in principle give yo...

Re: Issue with Macbook with OSX removed

After reading Mute Ant's post, I decided to try with an optical disk. I did not realize that would make a difference, but it did! I finally was able to boot into other distros. Furthermore, I decided to reinstall OSX under a small partition to give me more troubleshooting options. So right now, I ha...

Issue with Macbook with OSX removed

Hello, I actually have a very positive result with Mint 17.3 Xfce on my 2008-era Macbook, but there seems to be a weird issue with USB booting that arose after installation. First of all, Mint installed just fine... I wiped the entire hard drive and let Mint do its automatic install. It booted just ...

Re: Recurring issue being unable to select wallpaper images

Hi there,
Thanks for the feedback. The path in the settings editor is correct and verified through Thunar. And this is a sporadic issue (sometimes I can see the wallpapers othertimes I can't), and I have never changed the wallpaper path.

Attached is a screenshot.

Recurring issue being unable to select wallpaper images

Hi there, I am on Mint 17 Xfce Edition for the past year and a half. Every now and then, I get into a situation where I am unable to select background images in the Desktop settings are. Please see attached photo. That folder should have at least 20 images to choose from. Sometimes I go in and they ...

Re: What is considered a "modern processor" to run LM today?

I do not agree. Puppy Linux (tahrpup6.0) is an excellent full feature Linux distro. It has an excellent support forum with a wealth of support info available to an end-user. It loads and runs in the ram from a frugal install and every reboot is like doing a new clean install. Thanks for the feedbac...

Re: What is considered a "modern processor" to run LM today?

My opinion is that any processor older than 2008 is not worth messing with if you want to use your computer every day for a lot of different things. If this is true, then I don't really have anything that will run LM xfce? Would I even be able to run antiX, Lubuntu or Puppy? Oh you would run those ...

Re: Mint 17 Xfce Applications Menu

Thanks for the help. It looks like I can do most of what I want with the .desktop file categories. For the most part, the default order is fine, and I probably could just uninstall a lot of stuff to clean it up the way I want it.

Re: Mint 17 Xfce Applications Menu

Hi Gene, Thanks for the reply. I was initially hoping to add my own separators, add a few other desktop items to top level, maybe hide a few categories. Is it safe to say that all of the stuff that MenuLibre did was in the xfce-applications.menu file that I deleted as well as the .desktop files in ....

Mint 17 Xfce Applications Menu

Hi there, I am still on Qiana and for the past year have been struggling with MenuLibre and items missing from the applications menu (that occurs when I right-click). Today, I removed the xfce-applications.menu file from /home/username/.config/menus/folder and it seems to have fixed the problem. Doe...

Are you sure you want to? Why not install Virtualbox, install an Oracle supported distribution of Linux, like Suse or Redhat, and access it from Linux Mint?

Re: How to prevent USB drive from remounting after ejecting?

Have you tried using the program named dconf Editor? There is a setting in that program listed at org.cinnamon.desktop.media-handling and you can check or uncheck for automount. It's description is: If set to true, then Nautilus will automatically mount media such as user-visible hard disks and rem...

Re: How to prevent USB drive from remounting after ejecting?

I actually tried that (umount from CLI) several times and got the same result. After digging into it some more, I realized that the ejecting and a unmounting are two different things. The problem arises when you try to eject, and disconnect power. This is the same as hitting the eject button next to...
