Re: Mint with KDE fail

Does anybody notice when someone has (to themselvies) a glitch which they don't try to work out they turn to using such words as "crap" and "it sucks" along with a few others I won't mention.. Most times when you come ask questions WITHOUT an attitude people are willing to help but when you come in...

How to prevent USB drive from remounting after ejecting?

This seems to have been introduced recently after some updates. I am using Mint 17 XFCE edition. I have a Western Digital 1 TB USB drive. When I am ready to remove it, I go into Thunar and click the eject button. I have also tried right clicking and ejecting. Both ways work. But within two seconds i...

Re: LM17 XFCE 32 Bit - Menu items missing after menulibre ed

The more I look into Menulibre, the more I feel like it is pretty decent. The weird part is that I do not think there ever were any of the following .desktop files in usr/share/applications folder: - xfce4-file-manager.desktop - xfce4-logout.desktop - xfce4-terminal.desktop - xfce4-web-browser.deskt...

Re: LM17 XFCE 32 Bit - Menu items missing after menulibre ed

Yep same issue on Mint 17 Xfce 64-bit edition. However, after evaluating what happened, I saw that the only issue was that Menulibre eliminated the top 4 "preferred" programs from the top of the applications menu. This was quite easy to re-add using new launchers. I found after adding them manually,...

Re: Linux Mint Xfce (201104) released!

i had the same questions bugging me, see lot of gnome and qt dependencies as well  I don't really have any complaint about the speed, feels quite snappy, but RAM usage is definitely on the higher side, pretty much same as gnome which was quite disappointing. If there was some way to remove a...

Strange USB drive behavior on Linux

A strange issue that happens is that when I unmount a USB drive, it disappears from the desktop and everything looks fine. But a few seconds later, it re-recognizes the drive and remounts the volume. So I need to disconnect the drive quickly before that happens. This does not happen on Windows and I...

Re: Debian Xfce Edition RC approved

is it recommended to reinstall with new iso's or will update/upgrade procedure work well enough if we originally installed via the RC iso? With Ubuntu the recommended way to upgrade to a newer version of the distro, is to do a 'fresh' install. With Debian the recommended way to upgrade to a newer v...

Re: Regarding Update Strategy for Dad's Netbook

cool thanks for the tips. I was planning to set up to login via SSH, tho I will look into VNC as well. So I take it that updates are important and that I just need to have an update strategy that has the least likelihood of breakage (like LTS versions and enabling only the most necessary levels). Th...

Re: Debian Xfce Edition RC approved

i am wondering if the Mint team plans to include a GUI for customizing the xfce menu? Or is the intention that the Mint Menu will be fully working and the recommended menu for customizability? At the moment, with the regular menu, it seems there is no right clickability on menu items and no easy way...

Regarding Update Strategy for Dad's Netbook

So I got XFCE RC Mint working great on a netbook that I am going to give to my Dad. He will use it for web-browsing and Skype. I see him about once a year. Between seeing him, is it important for him to run updates and upgrades? I prefer to have him leave things alone and let me update for him once ...

Re: Debian Xfce Edition RC approved

but it wants to launch Nautilus and not Thunar. I see no preferences in the GUI to change it, so right now, I have to navigate to /media to find it. Easy enough but perhaps this can be fixed? This post may help Thanks, but in this case, I do not have Nautilus installed. So it is not a problem with ...

Re: Debian Xfce Edition RC approved

nice, I fixed the battery situation with the above instructions. A couple of situations I ran into that was more difficult than the main edition: - ibus not installed by default. and languages need to be added through the terminal. this is easy enough to do but the main edition was nice in having a ...

Re: Debian Xfce Edition RC approved

- Do you also miss the "On Battery"-tab in the power manager when you open it right after reboot? I only have two tabs: "On AC Power" and "General". Not until I untick/tick that I want to display battery does the "On Battery" tab show up. That's how it was at least until I threw it out after a coup...

Grub loads on cold boot but not warm?

here is an interesting situation. On the XFCE Debian RC version, Grub loaded just fine with restarts and cold boots and I could choose Linux vs Windows. But now, after doing updates and upgrades, Grub does not load and restarts go straight back into Linux. But a cold boot loads Grub and allows me to...

Re: Debian Xfce Edition RC approved

Not sure I've seen anything about this, so I thought I'd make a note of them in case someone has an answer/is experiencing the same: 1. I can't seem to find anywhere to activate "tap to click" on my elantech touchpad. I'm pretty sure this worked in the Gnome version of LMDE. (Or am I just hallucina...

How to handle messages in Terminal

So in Synaptic, when I upgrade, sometimes I get a dialogue box with a message that I can close and continue with the upgrade. When the same thing happens in the terminal, I get a message and I scroll to the end. But there is nothing else I can do at that point, and all I can do is end the terminal t...
