Re: Choosing a Desktop Question?

I originally settled on Gnome a long time ago, then when Gnome 3 came out that seemed like a balls up to me so I went to XFCE and Openbox. Now I am strictly Mate because it reminds me of the original Gnome, it's fast and not as flashy as Cinnamon and thats the way I like it.

Have you guys seen this vid from Chaos Computer Club from last years conference. It's a bit long winded, but stick with it and pay particular attention to the hardware section towards the end of the vid. It's scary.

Re: Public PCs having to drop XP... migrate to Mint?

They would need a full desktop environment and solution,
Why, what apart from a browser are they running at the moment.

Re: Public PCs having to drop XP... migrate to Mint?

This is what I am getting at in a roundabout way by playing devil's advocate. If we as a community don't get up off our ar**s then It isn't going to happen as most councils will not have had a clue about how such a thing could be made to work, that's if they had the idea in the first place.

Re: Public PCs having to drop XP... migrate to Mint?

it would be way cheaper to just keep the old machines and bung Linux on them
But then who is this person that will do the job.
